Dry humor isn’t always obvious or understandable; sometimes it goes right over your head. There’s no standard set-up and punchline, and it can take the listener a minute to even understand that a joke has been made.

It’s been said that it was the British who developed and perfected dry humor, and that may be true, but it seems like background doesn't matter; if you have a talent for this type of humor, it doesn't matter where you come from. And if we consider astrology, it's obvious which zodiac signs have a dry sense of humor.

One thing about dry humor is that it’s smart. It’s not slapstick, nor is it so obvious that even a 5-year-old would get it. You’ve got to understand what the joke is making fun of and have a foundation of knowledge, or the joke will be lost on you.

Dry humor can sometimes get you in trouble if people misunderstand that you’re only being humorous, not intentionally trying to make them look stupid. It's not for everybody and can have the opposite effect of a regular joke; it can make people feel angry, insulted, hurt, or defensive.

1. AQUARIUS (January 20 - February 18)

Aquarians tend to think that traditional humor isn't funny. Just because something makes other people laugh, there's no guarantee that it will make Aquarius laugh. If this zodiac sign is at a funny movie, they won't get why everyone is laughing.

On the flip side, sometimes Aquarius is the only person who understands their jokes, but that doesn't stop them from enjoying their own humor. They make their own rules when it comes to humor.

2. VIRGO (August 23 - September 22)

Virgos are smart, and sometimes their jokes go over other people's heads. If that's the case, Virgo will rationalize that the person who didn't understand their humor just wasn't bright enough to get their cleverness.

Virgos are often sarcastic and cynical, usually as a way to protect themselves. They don't want others to realize how imperfect they are, so they use sarcasm as a way to feel superior.

3. SCORPIO (October 23 - November 21)

Scorpio's dry sense of humor can also be quite dark and can make people around them feel uncomfortable. Scorpio isn't going to reveal all their deep, dark secrets, but somehow, when they're being funny, people almost feel as if what they're saying is shocking and concerning.

They have a way of saying funny things with a serious expression on their face and a monotone vocal quality. Sometimes it's difficult to know that Scorpio made a joke until they break and start laughing.

4. PISCES (February 19 - March 20)

Sometimes Pisces feels as if no one gets them because not only is their humor dry, it can be somewhat out there. The associations their mind makes and the things they put together for comic effect aren't easily understandable.

If the traditional joke form is A+B=C, with Pisces it's A+B=FTZ. Pisces are more creative than most people, and that holds true with their humor. They can be sarcastic, but they're not trying to hurt anybody with their humor.

5. CANCER (June 21 - July 22)

One of the qualities that goes along with having a dry sense of humor is the ability to read people, and Cancer has that in abundance. Perhaps it's because they're intuitive, but they're able to tell how someone's feeling even if they've only been around them for a short period of time.

Cancer will say these off-handed things that are funny, but will take a moment for people to realize how funny they are. The Cancer sense of humor may not be as showy as a clown, but their humor seems more personal and directed.
