On MTV's Catfish, host Nev Schulman brings couples together after having only previously met on the internet. On these first meetings, anything can happen, and Schulman has been there to see it all over the show’s seven seasons.
But, is Schulman married? The answer is yes! He is currently married to his wife Laura Perlongo, but their relationship has been tested many times over the years. Read on to find out all about Perlongo and her relationship with Schulman, from its unique beginnings to the tests it has faced along the way.
1. Perlongo works as a freelance writer and creative director.
Perlongo’s LinkedIn states that she is a Freelance Creative Director based in New York and Los Angeles. Since graduating from Boston University in 2007, she has held various writing, communications, and creative positions.
2. Schulman asked her out through Instagram.
In a case of life imitating art, Schulman and Perlongo got their start in the same way as the couples on Catfish. After the two met on Instagram, Schulman direct messaged Perlongo to ask her out, and she accepted!
Perlongo told Us Weekly how she felt the first time she met Schulman, who picked her up for the date on his motorcycle. “It was the first time I was picked up by a stranger on a motorcycle. I was a little nervous to be honest,” she said. “I was like, ‘Are we gonna die? Is this worth dying?’”
3. Schulman almost lost her because he was “too in love.”
“I just got out of a thing, and I had been damaged by that, and I felt that maybe I was all messed up, and I wasn’t ready,” Schulman told Us Weekly about the fragile beginnings of his relationship with Perlongo. “I screwed it up and then I had to win her back.”
The two reunited shortly after Perlongo’s pregnancy, and they’ve been together since then.
4. They have one daughter together.
The couple welcomed their first daughter, Cleo, in October 2016. Both Schulman and Perlongo posted photos on Instagram to celebrate their daughter’s birth.
“Best. Thing. Ever. Cleo James arrived at 6:01am weighing 6lbs 10oz,” Schulman wrote. “[I] don’t remember this photo being taken or anything about the last 24 hours but bb girl has finally arrived,” Perlongo added.
5. The couple married in July 2017.
In July of last year, the couple got married in East Hampton, New York. Their daughter Cleo served as flower girl for the ceremony, which took place in Schulman’s father’s backyard.
“I never imagined I could be this happy,” Schulman told People. “Marrying the woman of my dreams and having our beautiful daughter there with us! I’m a very lucky man.”
6. Sexual misconduct allegations against Schulman were really hard on the family.
In May, production of Catfish was temporarily suspended after Ayissha Morgan accused Schulman and a fellow cast member of sexual misconduct and filed police reports detailing her allegations. In a YouTube video, Morgan alleged that the misconduct took place during the production of her appearance on the show in 2015. MTV closed their internal investigation into the allegations and resumed production of the show in June, after deeming that the allegations were “not credible and without merit,” according to Deadline.
“It was a really difficult time for me, as much for my wife and my family. It was tough,” Schulman told People earlier this month, after the investigation by MTV had been closed. “To be accused of something that I squarely did not do and to have the harsh judgment that followed and no way to counteract or do something in the moment to correct that was very difficult. It was frustrating. I just felt so powerless.”
7. They have a Facebook web series about relationships and dating.
Perlongo and Schulman host a Facebook web series together called “We Need To Talk with Nev and Laura.” In the series, the two hosts “answer your tough relationship questions, sharing their own hilarious dating experiences,” according to the show’s Facebook page.
8. Perlongo has appeared on Catfish multiple times.
Perlongo appeared with her husband on a recent episode of Catfish, filling in for regular host Max Joseph. In a Twitter post, Schulman previewed the episode, which aired in July 2018.
Though this was Perlongo’s first time hosting, she has appeared on the series twice previously in earlier seasons. In these episodes, she gave Schulman advice via video chat and appeared in one Catfish meeting.
