Unsplash No one wants to be put in a situation where they have to live with someone they hate, but unfortunately, life is not that predictable, and we don't always get what we want.
If you are in a situation where you have to live with someone who you feel invades your space, so now you'd rather not, you have one of two choices – that is, if one of your choices isn't to move out or kick them out – which can either help you or hurt you. Hate is a very strong emotion.
If you can't control your emotions, especially the hate you have for someone else, it will always end up controlling you. And when you're in a position (like being roomies) where you can't remove yourself from a situation filled with hate, you have to work twice as hard to not let your hatred end up ruling every aspect of your life.
For some zodiac signs, this is absolutely no problem. All they have to do is tune out the bad vibes, get on with their life, and make the most of a bad situation. For other zodiac signs, it's SO much easier to brood and be grumpy.
You know, just in case the person their living with forgets that they hate them. Some people might not believe this, but according to astrology, karma, and the laws of the universe, the emotions and vibes you put out into the world is what comes back to you.
So, if you hoard all of this hatred for someone inside of you instead of letting it go, you're much more likely to attract negative people and situations.
The same is true for the people who try to be as positive and happy as possible, even when things get stressful because they know that having a more positive outlook on life will help them be more receptive to good vibes and a happier life. Trust me, it totally works.
This doesn't mean that staying optimistic means you're going to get everything you ever wanted in life – some things should be left up to what the Universe has in store for you – but it does mean that the opportunities and people that do come your way will enhance your life and teach you much-needed lessons.
So, back to living with someone you despise. It's much better to try to live as harmoniously as possible together rather than get caught up in how much you hate them.
Because even though you hate them and are putting all of your energy into this emotion, it doesn't mean that they feel the same way, too.
Sure, they might not be very fond of you, but nothing is more frustrating to know that the person you're obsessing over, and doing whatever you can to make sure that they know how much you dislike them, doesn't give you a second thought.
It's like trying to argue with a brick wall! All you're doing is exhausting yourself for nothing. Does that sound worth it? Of course, it doesn't. Does that mean the zodiac signs who do this exact thing are going to stop anytime soon? Probably not.
That said, it is still important to figure out how you live with someone you hate, based on your horoscope traits, just in case you need help getting rid of those bad vibes when you realize that your hatred really isn't getting you anywhere.
ARIES (March 21 - April 19)
Unless you’re filled with so much hate that you can barely function, Aries, you generally just ignore the person you’re living with. That doesn’t mean you don’t hate them any less, you just don’t put a lot of effort into hating them – that’s what causes wrinkles, after all (I think). If they start something, you’ll definitely show up for the fight, but otherwise, you’re fairly chill.
Luckily for you, you have a very rich social life. Not only does that mean you get to socialize with people who aren’t the person you hate living with, but it also means you don’t have to be at home as much. Out with friends on the weekend? Crash on someone’s couch! Bored at home during the day? Sounds like a chance to get some fresh air and do something fun.
TAURUS (April 20 - May 20)
When you deal with someone you hate, Taurus, you generally don’t let it get to you. You’re not the kind of person to get too upset or overreact over things you don’t have any control over, so why pout over it? Of course, if you’re provoked, that’s a different story, but you get what I mean. When you live with someone you hate, you try to have as little contact with them as possible.
You’d love to say that you don’t have any contact with this person – or better yet, don’t even have to live in the same zip code as them – but in this situation, minimal contact is best. Of course, you know that there will be some days when you can’t help but run into each other, but you like to think that the only thing you two have in common is the kitchen; you consider that to be neutral ground.
GEMINI (May 21 - June 20)
It doesn’t matter how you into a situation where you had to live with someone you hate, Gemini, but you’re here now and that’s that. One of the first things you do – if not the very first thing – is let them know up front that you’re not friends. When it comes to you, there’s never any acting like you care, wanting to try to be friends, or staying out of each other’s way.
You might be a little hypocritical at times, but you like to think that you’re never fake. To you, there’s no use pretending everything is peachy when you can just rip the Band-Aid off and be honest right away. Sure, it might not be so comfortable between you two later on (no duh), but at least you don’t have to put on a fake smile every day, either.
CANCER (June 21 - July 22)
Cancer, you are one of those zodiac signs that can be so unassuming at times. When you have to live with someone you hate, you prefer to keep it to yourself so that no problems come of always getting on each other’s nerves. As long as you stay out of each other’s way, things tend to go pretty smoothly between you two.
That said, anyone who knows you knows that you can only be docile for so long. I mean, mess with a crab and you’ll get the pinchers, am I right? So, needless to say, if they hate you just as much as you hate them (and they’re not playing nice), you’ll show them why people call you unassuming. You don’t really like confrontation, but you’re more than willing to show them why you shouldn’t be messed with.
LEO (July 23 - August 22)
Leo, you might like drama in other situations, but when it comes to your living situation – a situation you know you’re not going to be able to change at the moment – you want things to be as peaceful as possible. For the most part, you’re an adult when it comes to living with someone you hate because you know that nothing sucks more than making a bad situation worse for yourself.
That said, you’re not the kind of zodiac sign to spend all your time in a toxic environment, either. If you’re living with someone you hate, you’ll spend time elsewhere whenever you can. And as for the time you spend at home? You’ll only confront them about your true feelings if you two are already fighting with each other. Otherwise, you’ll try to keep your cool.
VIRGO (August 23 - September 22)
Hate is already a pretty strong word for you, Virgo, and you try not to use it unless you really mean it. So, when you have to live with someone you hate, you make it not your problem. They have their life, you have yours – end of discussion. In fact, most of the time you don’t hate anyone; you “nothing” them. If you don’t have any feelings for them, then they’re not your problem, right?
You might be a control freak when it comes to your own life, but you’ve never been one to control someone or something you really have no pullover. You won’t go out of your way to make the home hostile so that they know you don’t like them, you won’t make a big deal about having to share things with them – you just live your life, free and unbothered.
LIBRA (September 23 - October 22)
When you have to live with someone you hate, Libra, you do so in a classic Libran way. You try to avoid confrontation as much as possible – definitely not your thing – but you also won’t hide the fact that you hate this person. That means not forcing yourself to hang out with them, spending minimal time in the same room as them, and keeping your conversations short and to the point.
Some people will see you as someone who would rather roll over and give up than tell this person that you clearly hate how you truly feel, but you’re not like that at all. You may be quiet in your hatred, but it is still very much there. And while the person you’re living with might think you’re rude, impolite, and maybe even a little bitchy, there’s no confusion that you hate them, too.
SCORPIO (October 23 - November 21)
Scorpio, when you’re living with someone you hate, you never sugarcoat it. I mean, even if you did try to play it off as not that important with your words, your face would tell a totally different story. You’re not the kind of zodiac sign who has the best poker face, and you won’t be able to hide how you truly feel whenever they’re in the room.
You will actively ignore the person you’re living with when you hate them. Actively ignoring them means pretending to read a book or play on your phone when they’re clearly talking to you, bumping shoulders with them in the hallway when you pass, and anything in between. You can sometimes be a bully about it, but that’s only because you don’t want them to forget how you really feel.
SAGITTARIUS (November 22 - December 21)
Sagittarius, you are probably one of the most laidback zodiac signs when it comes to living with someone you hate. You might even be another zodiac sign that says they “nothing” the person they live with because hating them still means you care. Your biggest thing is that there is clearly bad blood between you two, so why make it worse?
When you live with someone you hate, you never see each other. It’s not that you’re avoiding them – you’ll be polite if they ask you a question – it’s just that you know that the two of you don’t get along, so rather than try to pick a meaningless fight, you just leave them alone. There’s no bitterness or animosity, just two people trying to make the most out of a bad situation.
CAPRICORN (December 22 - January 19)
Capricorn, you try to be an adult when it comes to dealing with people you hate, but when you have to live with them, the line between adult and childish tends to blur. You’re not one to confront them right away and make it known that you hate them so passionately. You would much rather lay low and pick your battles. That is unless things get too tense and you feel the need to say something.
In the meantime, you won’t hide your hatred for this person – you just won’t go overboard with it, either. You will, however, take to passive hatred, which means the person you’re living with can get used to notes about remembering not to be a slob in the bathroom and remembering to keep the AC use to a minimum. You can be condescending when you’re really fueled by your hatred, but usually, you’re just passive-aggressive.
AQUARIUS (January 20 - February 18)
There are two sides to you when you hate someone (and have to live with them), Aquarius. Generally, you tend to keep your feelings to yourself. You can get pretty emotional and irrational when you have to confront the fact that you’re being kind of a jerk – or when someone calls you out for it – so you prefer to zip your lip. You might put on a polite face when you’re home, but when you’re with friends, you talk major crap.
On the other hand, there are times when you just can’t keep up appearances and you don’t want to keep pretending like this person is anything less than a demon. When your hatred for the person you’re living with really works you up, you can get very melodramatic and nasty. That means slamming doors, throwing out perfectly good food (because it’s theirs), and messing with their stuff when they’re gone.
PISCES (February 19 - March 20)
Pisces, you don’t like putting yourself in an uncomfortable situation as much as you possibly can. If you are living with someone you hate, you will do everything in your power to make sure that you don’t have to be in the same room as them – like, ever. So, what do you do? You make yourself a home within your home.
You’ll hole up inside of your bedroom – or whatever part of your domicile is your domain – and make it so that you barely have to leave. Maybe you have a little kitchenette of your own, a stockpile of food and necessities, and a home theater complete with extra soft blankets… or maybe just an escape route out of the house, should you need it. You will most likely become a hermit just so you never have to interact with them.
