New Details About American Idol's Maddie Poppe And Caleb Lee Hutchinson's Secret Relationship
They finally revealed their romance during the finale.
Getty Images American Idol 's Caleb Lee Hutchinson and Maddie Poppe recently confirmed that they had been secretly dating.
The top two revealed that they're a couple before they took the stage to give their final performance of the season on May 21. They sang their own rendition of "Over The Rainbow," and grabbed each other's hands at the end.
Even host Ryan Seacrest got teary-eyed when he addressed them onstage and surprised them with a trip with Hawaii.
At the end of the show, Maddie Poppe was crowned the winner of American Idol.
After the finale, the couple went on Entertainment Tonight and admitted that their romance began on Jan. 21, the first day they met during Hollywood Week.
“It was the first day of Hollywood Week and we haven’t really spent any time apart since then,” Hutchinson said. “It was one of those things where I didn’t want it to affect anything, and I didn’t want to exploit my feelings for her ‘cause they’re very, very real. Once voting was over, I was like, ‘Shoot, I want the world to know.’”
When asked if he was "in love," he sweetly replied: "I mean, you know…I remember looking at her. I knew very quickly."
Poppe said they both were happy they made it to the top two together.
"We really wished that this could happen and just that it happened," she said. "I’m just so happy, so on top of the world, that I can’t even believe this is my life, so it’s pretty amazing."
And Caleb said he didn't mind losing to her girlfriend.
“I mean, it was honestly, it wasn’t as challenging as you might think," he said. "When I looked over at Maddie, I was like, 'I win either way.' I really do. I don’t feel any type of bitter loss at all. I’m just so happy for her.”
