Is It Just Us, Or Do The New Ken Dolls Look JUST Like These Celebs?

The resemblance is UNCANNY!

I was a HUGE Barbie fan when I was younger. I had one box stuffed with Barbie dolls (and the lonesome Ken doll) and an even bigger box full of clothes and accessories.

Because my best friend conveniently lived on the same street as me, we would often spend all day creating elaborate back stories for all of our Barbie dolls, and build mansions for them out of Star Wars toys left behind from her older brothers and retro dollhouses from my house.

Obviously, Barbie dolls were a staple growing up.

Of course, while Barbie dolls were fun to play with, they didn’t really offer much in the way of diversity.

I mean, you can only own so many blonde dolls that all look the same. I distinctly remember only ever having one dark-skinned Barbie because she was pretty much the only one on the market at the time – and that was over 15 years ago.

And as for body diversity, there was no such thing as a Barbie doll with thick thighs, broad shoulders, or cellulite.

And I know you’ve all seen that creepy picture of what Barbie would look like if she were human-sized… not pretty.

So to say that Barbie was a great role model for anyone who didn’t exemplify her skin color, blonde hair, or tiny waist would have been totally wrong. At least until now.

When news of new Barbie dolls being made in Zendaya and Ashley Graham’s likenesses came out, I totally geeked; every little girl deserves to own a Barbie doll that looks like her.

And now with a whole new line of Ken dolls – complete with different hair styles, skin tones, and body shapes – I’m so ready for this new generation.

Granted, a lot of people are making fun of the man bun and “trendy” clothing (a la your last Tinder date) that New Ken is sporting (and yes, it’s hilarious), but it’s important for the Barbie brand to change with the times.

Plus, I don’t know about you, but all of these new Ken dolls look an awful lot like celebs to me.

Maybe it’s just because the brand wanted to update his look to be more similar to this generation, but you can’t tell me that you don’t see a little bit of Colton Haynes or Zac Efron in these dolls.
