Almost nobody wants to be a people-pleaser, but insecurities creep in for almost all of us sometimes. It's hard to stop caring what other people think, and as social creatures, humans are hard-wired to want approval from others.

But there are people who have no desire to impress random other people. Yes, they're rare to come across, but when you hear them speak, you know right away. It's not that they're selfish or walking around with blinders, it's that they trust their own instincts enough to dismiss the judgment of those they couldn't care less about.

Phrases who have zero desire to impress anyone else often say 9 phrases in casual conversations:

1. 'Honestly, I'm good either way'

Those who have no desire to impress people by taking a side or forcing an opinion when they don't have one. That's why, when other people are speaking up, you'll sometimes hear them say something like "I'm good either way" or "I don't really have an opinion on this".

They aren't trying to be dismissive, they just genuinely don't care. Wherever the wind blows, they know they'll be okay. Like everything else in their lives, they're not going to fake anything in order to fit in or impress someone, even if people think they're non-discerning.

Because they're confident in themselves, they'll casually say, "That's not really my thing" when someone invites them to do something they're not interested in. Is it blunt? Yes, but they don't care because it's honest without being unkind.

While they could sit there and play pretend, acting coy never gets people far. When you don't need to impress others, you don't have to lie to get out of something you're not into.

This is part of why honest people are generally well-liked and successful. According to a study published in 2021, honesty is positively correlated with self-control, normalcy feeling, and life satisfaction.

Authentic people aren't looking to win and they couldn't care less if you don't believe them. They're self-assured in who they are and where they stand. Rarely needing anyone's approval, they're quick to say, "You don't have to agree with me" in order to move on from an unproductive conversation.

Social connection is important for our physical and mental well-being and shouldn't be dismissed. This is why they avoid back-and-forth at all costs. In their eyes, the goal isn't to impress others. Their goal is to relax, enjoy time with people they value and not waste time on meaningless disagreements.

While people who have no need to impress others respect and desire feedback from people they value, they don't appreciated unsolicited advice from random people. Even if your intentions are pure, they'll probably just reply with, "That's what works for me" to let you know that their decision, in this case, is not open for discussion.

You might not agree with their decisions, but they won't bend just because you asked them to. Especially if it goes against who they are authentically, good luck. Once they're committed, they aren't easily swayed.

This is because they value authenticity, which is linked to well-being. As a result, they understand that changing themselves to please others will only end in disaster. If your advice goes against what they believe is best for themselves and they didn't ask for your take, save your breath.

When someone doesn't feel the need to impress others, they're quick to let things go. Because they're focused on their own happiness and living by their own values system, they don't mind saying, "You do you, and I'll do me."

You might think it's weird that they're not trying to convince you to believe or act how they do, but when our brain sees information we don't like, it quite literally shuts off. That's why it's actually so hard to change someone's mind.

If they're not worried about impressing you, and they're confident in who they are and their decisions, they'd rather just live and let live, so to speak.

People who don't care about impressing others aren't afraid to make mistakes. Even if the mistakes cost them, they'll say, "I can live with that" when taking a meaningful and worthwhile risk.

Sure, it may sting in the moment, but they understand that making mistakes isn't a bad thing. The learning experience matters most. Plus, they just don't worry about what other people are going to think of their mistakes (unless that mistake hurts someone else, of course).

This gives them an advantage in life, because their mistakes help them gain wisdom and practice. Rather than being consumed by failure, they see it as a stepping stone to grow into the person they were always meant to be and that might be the greatest gift of being someone who's not out to impress others.

This is pretty self-explanatory, isn't it? When you don't have to impress others, you don't need to be the best at something.

Other people are too often consumed by the need to be perfect. Blame it on their childhood, but their perfectionist tendencies get the better of them. Unconsciously pushing themselves to the extreme, they don't realize how unhealthy their behavior is.

But people who aren't wired to impress know now that performing for others never gets people far. Now, focused on their own well-being, they're quick to say, "I don't need to be the best at everything."

8. 'I'm good with what I got'

In our society, we're taught to always want more more more. Whether it's more money, fancy handbags or watches or more praise and accolades, it doesn't matter. Some people just always need to be on the hunt. Unconsciously looking for the next big thing, it's no surprise that these folks are miserable. When you're always focused on the next big thing, you don't have any time to sit with your gratitude

This means folks with zero desire to impress others are among the happiest people out there. Because they are grateful for what they have and reinforce it by saying, "I'm good with what I got," they're more content than the average person.

9. 'People can think what they want'

At the end of the day, nobody can control what others think. Even if you could find a way to be perfect, a few folks will find a way to hate on you.

This is why these uniquely unfazed people casually say, "People can think what they want" and really mean it. It doesn't matter how much they're despised, their decisions and who they are are authentic.

Please remember that it takes a while to get to where these confident people are in their carefree mentality. They choose to live authentically, which does take some work. Gratitude practices help, as does developing a strong internal moral compass and set of values.

Beyond that, when you're someone who doesn't need to impress others, as long as you're happy and living true to your values, everyone else can kick rocks.
