People Who Are Mentally & Emotionally Bright Usually Say 6 Things In Casual Conversation
Halfpoint | Shutterstock We all like to think of ourselves as being bright, but what does that mean exactly? When we think of bright people, we think of innovative thinkers, kind people, and people that overall deserve respect. But brightness is more than just intellect, it's also an indicator of emotional intelligence.
These mentally and emotionally bright people have a way of speaking that makes other people trust them, a genuineness and it's much deeper than charisma. Some of the things they say often are surprising, while others speak to the humbleness and resilience they've built.
People who are mentally and emotionally bright usually say 6 things in casual conversation:
1. 'I can do it'
Our thoughts truly do create our realities. Neuroplasticity is super complicated but it boils down to the idea we can train our brain to believe anything we want. Sometimes we have to behave our way into thinking differently, but that's still a testament to how malleable our brains really are.
Our thoughts shape our actions which shape our habits which is the person we become and that's at the core of what bright people believe. That's why, when a challenge comes up, they say, "I can do it" or something similar.
They know that theyt can "rewire" their thoughts in a healthy way in order to believe that they can do anything they put their mind to. This takes time, but it is so worth it.
2. 'I'm here with you'

Active listening is such an important skill that really should be taught in schools in my opinion. It basically means that you’re not just listening to the words somebody is saying, you are processing them.
You are thinking about it as they are speaking and reacting appropriately. Your body language also reflects this, such as nodding and making eye contact. An active listener will say something like “I’m with you” when somebody else is telling a story so that person knows their time isn’t being wasted.
3. "That's a good point"
This is another phrase that signals active listening. If you are talking to somebody and they respond with “that’s a good point” it makes you want to keep speaking.
Or, if you are actually having a disagreement with somebody, having the other person validate one of your points is a good sign. First of all, it lowers your guard a bit more so you don’t feel so attacked. Second, it shows that the other person is thinking about what you are saying. All in all, it's a good phrase to use and indicates a high level of emotional brightness.
4. 'I don't know'

Admitting when you’re wrong is one of the hardest things to learn how to do as a human being. We attach so much pride onto our thoughts and words that when somebody disagrees with us, it feels like a personal attack.
Mentally and emotionally bright people, however, have no problem admitting when they’re wrong. They understand that as humans, we all make mistakes. They also don’t associate their self worth with one mistake and have enough confidence to move on.
5. 'Let me think about that'
As an indecisive person myself, I feel a lot better after reading this article by psychologist and writer Mark Travers, Ph.D., called 3 Reasons Intelligent People Can Be More Indecisive Than Others.
According to Travers, indecisive people are actually very intelligent. Bright people don’t respond immediately when asked a question or a favor because they need to make sure it’s the right decision and one that won’t hurt anybody’s feelings.
Travers warns, however, to not think too much about decisions. If you stress too much about making the right decision, you will probably end up regretting it. Travers calls these people the “maximizers” because they try to “maximize” the decision.

A mentally or emotionally bright person is overall a kind one. They like to make other people feel better and so they will go out of their way to make others happy.
Although there is no evidence of a direct correlation between intelligence and kindness, many psychologists believe that there is one. Kind people can read social situations well, have high emotional intelligence, high impulse-control, and good decision making skills. All of these are related to high intelligence.
