Everyone has a limit when dealing with other people's problems. After a while hearing the same old complaints and victim mentality, some anger might start to bubble up. When someone is at their limit, there is some language they usually use that makes it hard to hide.

8 phrases someone says when they've lost capacity to handle other people's problems:

1. 'I don't have the energy for this right now'

People who are over others' problems don't want to hear another complaint. They've tried to be a good friend. They've tried listening to others' troubles and anxieties. But the more they gave, the more exhausted they became. That's why they now say, "I don't have the energy for this right now."

And, hey, at least they're being honest.

They have their own lives, and that constant negativity others are brewing up starts impacting them mentally. The more negative people are, the harder it is to maintain friendships. That's why they'd rather drop it. For everyone's sake, it's best to know when enough is enough.

2. 'That's life'

Sometimes, people go through difficulties that challenge them. Do these moments make us want to crash out and give up? Absolutely, but the more we're challenged, the more resilient we become.

That's why people who are just done with the nonsense can't help but say something like "that's life" once they've maxed out on other people's victim mindset.

Life might suck sometimes, but fighting your way through is the only answer. At the end of the day, they gotta learn how to stand on their own two feet. Even if it's hard, people need to remember that their loved ones are human beings too. As a result, they don't always have the energy to handle everyone's problems.

So, the next time someone says this, don't take offense. They could seriously be at their wits' end.

People who have lost their capacity to listen to other people's problems have recently discovered that they can't always be the rock that others lean on. They want to, but as they'll tell you that it's time for them to start taking care of their own needs.

Once you've lost your patience with someone's learned helplessness, it's hard to go back to being their emotional trash can.

That's why they subtly remind others that they're focused on their own well-being. As psychotherapist Ilene Strauss Cohen, Ph.D. said, "Making your needs a priority is never a waste of time—especially if you’ve always neglected your needs." So, folks, don't be afraid to shut down negativity. If you want to flourish, you gotta put your mental health first.

4. 'They need to figure it out on their own'

They can't hold their loved one's hand forever. Eventually, they have to step back and allow others to make their own decisions. Will it pain them? Absolutely. But as difficult as it'll be, they'll still say, "They need to figure it out on their own." The more they try to protect them, the more they stunt their growth.

Mistakes help fuel development and when we protect people from the consequences of their answers or shield them from struggles, we enable that stunted mentality.

The struggles can teach people valuable lessons and help them become more independent, but the people who want to protect them from these hard-knock lessons need to allow them to learn them.

5. 'I have enough going on in my life already'

Life is already stressful enough. With the cost of living at an all-time high, most people are already stretched to the absolute max. They don't want to hear about another person's problems, especially if their problems hit close to home or seem to be non-stop from that person.

They don't mean to be disrespectful, but they can't handle more of someone else's baggage. They can barely handle their own life. That's why it's important to give people grace. Sure, they were rude; however, they didn't do it on purpose. Burnout impacts how they treat others and can make them more irritable than usual.

6. 'What do you want me to do about it?'

Once someone runs out of patience, the smallest problems get under their skin. The more issues someone brings, the snappier they get. With their heads pounding and frustration building, they'll eventually snap back and say, "What do you want me to do about it?"

Is it ideal? Definitely not. But in those moments, they just can't find the capacity for any more empathy or even sympathy.

They want to help, but they know nobody'll listen to the advice they give anyway. People are determined to do what they want, regardless of how insane it is. That's why they become so triggered. Being ignored isn't just annoying. It creates self-doubt, a loss of control, and a sense of being unworthy.

No offense, but they're low-key tired of hearing about everyone's problems. Like, yes, your life is hard, but they just want to talk about something else. Anything else! After hearing someone complain about the same old thing, it gets tiring. Now, exhausted and highly annoyed, they're ready to close this chapter and move on.

While they don't mind being a shoulder to cry on, they can't keep rehashing the same old issues. Eventually, they gotta protect their own peace of mind, too.

How many times can someone discuss the same problem? No matter how much they care about a friend or coworker, hearing the same complaints gets tiring. That's why they eventually snap and say, "Here we go again." Sorry to say, if someone isn't going to change, don't bother complaining.

At some point, they gotta take responsibility for their own actions. It isn't fair to pile their problems onto others while doing nothing to change. So, instead of venting, start making changes. It's not only more productive. It saves the already exhausted person a headache.
