These parents teach their kids how to have grit and independence because that's how they live. They keep going, even when things get hard. When they grow up, these kids have the self-trust to know that no matter how bad things get, they'll come out on the other side because their parents always did.

Things don't always work out in our favor. Instead of feeling discouraged or losing motivation, kids with exceptionally tough parents learn to brush off the embarrassment and keep trying.
If things go wrong, no matter how big or small, adopting a positive mindset can change everything. This doesn’t come naturally to many people, which can lead to a cycle of disappointment. Strong parents show their children that by being positive and trying again, things will get better.

No matter how many hurdles are in their way, resilient people don’t back down. Not everyone is cut out for pushing through the hard stuff, but if it’s all they know, it is easier for them. They can thank their parents for guiding them this way.
Fear of failure is ingrained in all of us. However, when someone grows up watching their parents fight through hard situations, they truly believe that things get better. That kind of optimism fuels them to keep going.
3. They learn to let go of the things they can’t control

I am not good at letting go of the things I can’t control. Anxiety usually gets the best of me. I want to fix everything, but it's not always possible.
Kids raised by exceptionally tough parents have an easier time with this uncertainty. They let things go and move on without replaying the details over and over again.
Resilient people know when it's time to simply acknowledge the situation and put it in the past. It makes life more enjoyable.
4. They push through even when motivation is lacking

Some mornings I wake up without motivation before the day even starts. I don’t want to go to the gym or even get out of bed.
We all have days like this, but people raised by tough parents don't use it as an excuse. They watched their moms and dads put their own needs aside to simply do what had to be done, without complaining. They know that moving forward, even without motivation, is the only option.
5. They handle their emotions well

Parents play a major role in teaching their children how to regulate their emotions. That means supporting them through tough moments while teaching them that staying calm will get them far.
These kids are allowed to feel their feelings, but they also know that they can't let their feelings dictate how they act. It encourages them to solve problems without losing their cool.
Emotional regulation is essential in stressful moments. Without this skill, frustration and anger can take control. Parents who are tough and never let their feelings get the best of them teach their children how to calm themselves before things get out of hand.
6. They know criticism helps them grow

Criticism always gets under my skin, even when I know someone is trying to help me. It makes me feel like I’m not good enough, which keeps me from implementing the advice. Some people are better at accepting helpful criticism, which may have been learned at home.
If their parents were always trying to better themselves and their children, they may have used productive criticism to teach them how to improve. While not all forms of constructive criticism work for everyone, resilient people are often more willing to take it to heart and change accordingly.
7. They take accountability for their actions

It’s not easy to admit when you’re wrong. It takes maturity to look at your behavior and acknowledge that you could do better.
Not everyone apologizes when they make a mistake. Someone raised by tough parents was likely taught this at a young age. They weren’t allowed to treat people poorly and move on as if nothing happened.
Taking accountability also means they see their mistakes and work to move forward. This puts them on a path to resilience instead of self-doubt and pity. It fosters the positive change they need.
8. They stay calm when things get hard
