As a summer baby, I look forward to basking in the sun every year. But there is something magical about fall, and that magic extends to the people who love it as their favorite season.

The fall vibe is more than just the crisp weather, the leaves falling, apple picking, or even the Halloween season. There’s something to it. It's unique, and the people who thrive amid pumpkin spice everything share traits that reflect just how special this time of year is.

Rare traits of people thrilled that fall is coming and summer is ending:

1. They prioritize comfort

Many summer haters complain about the heat. They don’t like sweating and constantly being uncomfortable. Fall weather means cooler temps, which means the windows can be opened and cozy blankets can come out of storage.

Those crisp temps and sunny afternoons also mean more time spent outside, which has lots of mental health benefits. Spending the day apple picking or getting lost in a corn maze is pretty awesome when it's not hot and humid out, that's for sure!

2. They romanticize their life

One of the most magical parts about fall is being able to romanticize it. All the pumpkin scents and chunky sweaters will put you in a whimsical mood.

Psychologist Joseph Cardillo, PhD, noted that fall lovers are all about nostalgia and the romantic notion of times gone by. He wrote, “Memory is a powerful tool, especially when combined with imagery and music!" He went on to say, "Afternoons are still warm. And the days can still feel like summer sometimes. Dry leaves scattered on the ground crackle like the rhythm to a song steeped in memories of the 'good ol’ days,' maybe even spent with a BFF or family member way back in your youth."

3. They like sleep

We all need sleep. It’s crucial to our mental and physical health. And as the days get shorter and the temperatures drop, sleeping becomes easier and more enjoyable.

Some of the benefits, according to the CDC, include lower stress levels, improved circulation, and weight regulation. However, some people don’t prioritize it as much as others, and it's especially hard to do over the summer when the sun seems to be out forever.

4. They love cozy sweater weather

There's something truly comforting about a warm sweater and a pair of jeans. That can give you a serious boost to self-esteem.

Psychologist Ronit Levy explained that “Depending on where you live, fall usually means the end of swimsuit season. People tend to feel more comfortable about their bodies and appearance in the fall because they're wearing more or bulkier clothing.” Plus, because of the holidays, there’s less pressure to diet and exercise than there is in summer.

5. They like routine

Fall is back-to-school season, and most people settle back into a routine. People aren’t going on vacations as much, and that also means your social life might get a little boost.

“During the summer, people tend to travel for vacation and have less predictable schedules. Once fall starts, most people resume their everyday routines, making it easier for friends to get together and socialize. There is a comfortable routine that this season brings,” says Sanam Hafeez, PsyD, neuropsychologist and director of Comprehend the Mind.

6. They are introspective

Fall lovers are more introspective than summer folks. They enjoy activities like reading or long walks. It’s at this time that they can reflect on their life.

Fall weather makes it perfect for introspective people to enjoy time to themselves. All the memories that come up thanks to familiar smells, indulgent foods, the holidays approaching, and even back-to-school photos on Facebook have fall lovers spending a whole lot of time thinking about life and what they love about it.

7. They have tight-knit families

Fall is the beginning of the holiday season. As much as some of us try to forget about it, those with tight-knit families that spend every holiday together are probably counting down the days until Thanksgiving.

The cooler weather and pumpkin candles remind them of being with their families on holidays, and they want to revel in that joy for as long as they can.
