Women who stop caring about being nice and start being honest often say these phrases in tense moments because the only person they truly owe anything to is themselves.

1. 'I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you'

The belief that women are more emotionally mature or intelligent than men solely on the basis of their gender is what experts call a master stereotype that can negatively affect everyone. However, that doesn't negate the collective experience that many women have in their relationships with men, especially early in life, considering that girls tend to develop physically and emotionally earlier in their lives compared to boys.

Phrases like this can represent a breaking point for women. They've not only chosen to refuse to be agreeable or passive for a man's comfort, but they've also started being honest. Of course, having a healthy conversation to express needs and ensure everyone feels heard and understood is a great way to resolve conflict in a relationship, but not everyone has the capacity.

According to a study, women tend to have more agreeable and comforting personality traits than men, largely due to unfortunate societal norms that've pressured them into conforming. From agreeing with someone in a work meeting to avoiding conflict to people-pleasing in a relationship to smooth things over, women often agree passively to keep the peace, even when they don't realize it. But when a woman stops caring about being nice and starts being honest, she finally stops conforming to agreeable expectations and fiercely advocates for herself. If she disagrees, she'll say so — and loudly.

No is a full sentence. Practice with us: No. Considering many women tend to adopt people-pleasing pressures in their lives from a young age, it's not surprising that saying that one word can often feel extremely uncomfortable to actually utter out loud. But it's important if you want anyone else to respect you.

When someone feels consistently disrespected, it's not surprising that they'll feel less drawn to niceties and more likely to be blatantly honest. If someone behaves selfishly or narcissistically, or takes advantage, they may need this reminder: the world does not revolve around you, and empathy is a necessary part of a healthy relationship. According to clinical psychologist David Susman, PhD, empathizing with and understanding other people is necessary for social order; if everyone in the world only looked out for themselves, without any understanding or empathy for others, we'd all be in a much worse place.

Women often feel pressure to do it all, so using this phrase simplifies your boundaries for other people to quickly understand. This witty phrase is a boundary, even if misguided conventional standards might call it selfish, and it also helps women protect their time and energy. Guess what, ladies? You don't have to do it all. It's not just unsustainable and unhealthy; it's impossible to be everyone's go-to person all of the time while also juggling a million other things.

Toxic behavior and unhealthy relationships often manifest themselves in a number of ways, but they often share one similar trait: patterns of behavior. Whether it's narcissism or guilt-tripping, toxic behavior is a patterned behavior that many people struggle to recognize at the beginning. This phrase acknowledges toxic behavior head-on, reminding the people in your life that you're self-aware enough to notice when you're being disrespected and secure enough to call it out. When you stop obsessing over an unrealistic standard of kindness that many women are held to and start being honest, you'll feel so much more empowered.

"For some mysterious reason, there is always somewhere a man with an urge to tell a woman what are the right opinions (his opinions, of course)," consultant Mercedes Cardona said. "If you are a woman, there is only one thing more infuriating than his grandstanding; it's when he tries to school you."  Women can combat that obnoxious behavior with phrases like this one. Don't agree just to keep the peace or to mediate another man's anger. Set your boundaries and uphold them as best you can.

It's literally this simple: women don't need your permission. They don't need your acceptance or approval. Especially in heteronormative relationships, where it's easy to fall into an outdated set of traditional gender roles and power dynamics, this share basically says, I have the capacity to make decisions that are the best for me, thankyouverymuch.
