5 Most Melancholy Zodiac Signs

getty While someone who is melancholy may be depressed, it isn’t always a clinical depression. People who are melancholy are sensitive, self-analytical, serious, and they often feel misunderstood.
These people can be introspective and sensitive, but melancholy isn’t something you can just snap out of. It can sometimes be a huge part of one’s personality, and if we consider astrology as part of that equation, there are certain melancholy zodiac signs who act this way.
The things that make other people happy may not work for them as they’re never satisfied with superficial things. They love peace and quiet so they can hear themselves think, because chaos causes them anxiety, and one-on-one conversations or raucous parties overwhelm them.
If you’re someone who is very upbeat, it can be challenging to have a melancholic partner. Some people work too hard to try to “cheer up” their partner or will try to manipulate them into faking a positive attitude. But this doesn’t always work and may actually make your partner feel like they’re not being seen or respected.
There are also similarities between "emo" people and melancholic people. They both feel things deeply, can be pessimistic, and are super serious, especially about themselves. However, "emo" seems to be more of a stage, and melancholy is more of a state of being.
1. VIRGO (August 23 - September 22)
Things that Virgos love can indicate a melancholic personality, including things being in their place, order in a chaotic world, quiet, and quality. Virgos don't go for things that have no real value; they tend not to be attracted to anything or anyone that is just pretty. They need some substance to back it up.
They enjoy going out and being with other people, but they're comfortable by themselves; they don't have a desperate need to be around other people.
2. SCORPIO (October 23 - November 21)
Scorpios tend to take their relationships very seriously; they'd rather get to know someone on a deeper level than just have something casual. Scorpios are introspective and often feel misunderstood. They're proud of themselves and their accomplishments.
They don't like to hide their trophies, awards, or diplomas; in fact, they will put them in a place of honor so everyone can see. Scorpios aren't bragging or showing off, they're just sharing. They have definite moods and are likely to brood if they feel overwhelmed or if their life gets too complicated.
3. PISCES (February 19 - March 20)
Pisces are another sensitive sign and tend to feel things on an extremely deep level. These individuals tend to have simple tastes, and know what they like and what they don't like. This can be especially true when it comes to art as they like simple shapes, colors, and forms.
Pisces can be easily hurt and will dwell on past relationships, wondering what went wrong and how they could have done better. They may have trouble making decisions as they feel they have to weigh every option — and it can paralyze them.
4. CANCER (June 21 - July 22)
Cancers have so many feelings and not enough time to thoroughly deal with them. Their sensitivity can be an indication of a melancholic personality. Cancers may find themselves unexpectedly crying at things like commercials, romantic comedies, and at hearing a beautiful piece of music.
Perhaps in part to their sensitivity or their intuition, but Cancers are excellent at being able to relate to other people. They understand because they've felt those things too, and they're able to access their emotions easily.
5. CAPRICORN (December 22 - January 19)
Capricorns like people, but they prefer to be their own boss and/or work alone. By working by themselves, they have full control over the project and don't have to depend on others to do their job well.
Capricorns have a laser-like attention to detail and aim for perfection. They can get so wrapped up in their work that they miss out on the life that's happening around them. And they aren't satisfied with something just because it's finished — they want it to be done well.
