Instagram It's been almost two months since Mac Miller died at the age of 26 and results of his toxicology report are finally in. This allows the Coroner's Office to announce the rapper's official cause of death. Miller died on September 7th at his Studio City, California home. His assistant found him kneeling on his bed with his face resting on his knees in a “praying position.”. At the time of his death he had cocaine, alcohol, and Fentanyl in his system. Thus, the Coroner's Office has deemed Miller's death a result of "mixed drug toxicity." Basically, Miller accidentally OD'd. 1. Fentanyl
Fentanyl is the same drug that was found in Michael Jackson, Prince and Tom Petty when they died. Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid pain medication. It is 50 times more powerful than heroin. Fentanyl patches, lozenges, and injection are typically prescribed to treat severe pain in people who have built a resistance to other opioid pain relievers. The powder form of Fentanyl is also increasingly cropping up as an additive in cocaine and methamphetamines. Since the drug is more potent at a lower dose than other opioids, people can easily overdose, especially when they are unaware that it was in a powder or pill.
2. Struggles with addiction
Miller struggled with addiction for years. His ex-girlfriend Ariana Grande admitted she broke off their relationship earlier this year due to his substance abuse issues and the fact that she couldn't help him get past it. After his death, Grande shared a tribute on her Instagram, saying: "i adored you from the day i met you when i was nineteen and i always will. i can’t believe you aren’t here anymore. i really can’t wrap my head around it. we talked about this. so many times. i’m so mad, i’m so sad i don’t know what to do." Miller's assistant told paramedics that his boss tended to drink to excess, use cocaine, and take non-prescribed medications such as Xanax.
3. His career
Mac Miller's real name was Malcolm James McCormick. He started distributing mixtapes in his hometown of Pittsburgh when he was a teenager. His first album Blue Slide Park was released in 2012. He was 19. It was the first independent debut album to hit the top of the Billboard chart in 16 years. His fifth album, Swimming, was released in August.
4. Mac and Ariana
Mac Miller and Ariana Grande dated for two years. Their relationship ended earlier this year. Shortly after, Miller crashed his Mercedes Benz G class SUV into a pole in the San Fernando Valley. He and his two passengers fled the scene. He was later arrested and charged with driving under the influence.
5. His last Instagram story
In his last Instagram story before his overdose, Miller posted a video of a record player playing So It Goes the last track on his newest album Swimming. The song has a lyric that says, "Nine lives, never die, I'm still gettin' high."
