George Michael's death came on us all so fast and furious that Christmas Day that it left us reeling with shock and whispering amongst ourselves, "He was so young. Only 53-years-old. What could he possibly have died from?"

Now we know.

Although rumors swirled that he died as the result of a drug overdose, suicide or complications related to AIDS or HIV, the official report on his cause of death states he died of natural causes.

According to the Mirror, Michael's official cause of his death is dilated cardiomyopathy with myocarditis and fatty liver.

A statement from Oxfordshire's senior coroner, Darren Salter, explains:

"Inquiries into the death of George Michael have been concluded and the final post mortem report received. As there is a confirmed natural cause of death, being dilated cardiomyopathy with myocarditis and fatty liver, the investigation is being discontinued and there is no need for an inquest or any further inquiries."

Although police had initially treated his death as "unexpected but not suspicious," reports had surfaced that Michael's boyfriend, Fadi Fawaz, was allegedly being questioned to determine if drugs had played a role in his untimely passing. Fawaz adamantly denied all allegations and rumors of any wrongdoing.

In one post on Twitter, he spoke as though directly to Michael:

"I wish I could tell you how cruel the world is without you, but I would upset you so much. I will never stop missing you x"

The rumors should now be permanently laid to rest.

Now that the report has been filed and made public, our hearts can heave their sorrowful sighs for the "uptown boy whose teacher has told him goodbye" knowing his life was well lived and his death was natural and peaceful.
