11 Things Women Subconsciously Do That Make Their Husbands Question The Marriage
Kampus Production | Pexels It's a misconception that men remain happy even when their wives are falling apart. It may seem easy for some men to not care about their wife's emotions, but others are quick to notice when things don't seem right. As a result of a wife's subconscious behaviors toward him, a man may begin to question his marriage.
No man wants to question the intentions of his wife or consider getting a divorce just because things are tough. But even the most committed man may start having doubts when he's being treated with disrespect. Over time, the relationship feels less like a partnership and more like living with a stranger.
Husbands question their marriage when their wives subconsciously do these things
1. Constantly criticize them or show a lack of appreciation

Husbands aren't perfect, no couple is, but there's a huge difference between correcting and criticizing. Whether they forgot to wash the dishes or take out the trash, we all have flaws and forget from time to time.
But when a wife weaponizes those flaws against her husband, even if she doesn't realize she's doing it, she's causing harm. As psychologist Jeffrey Bernstein explained, when someone repeatedly criticizes their partner, it erodes their self-esteem. After all, husbands are also human beings with feelings.
2. Emotionally disconnect

When most people think about what husbands want, there's a focus on the physical. But most couples forget that husbands have needs and want connection. Humans are wired to want connection, so when a husband is denied this and his wife is emotionally unavailable, it's hurtful.
Emotional disconnection is often silent and, because of that, dangerous to the status of a relationship. While husbands might not say anything or pretend it doesn't bother them, deep down they want that intimacy. When he's shut out by his wife, he begins to question if he should stay.
3. Having a dismissive attitude

Communication can either make or break a marriage. So, when a wife is dismissive of her partner or only puts herself first, it can make her husband spiral. While her feelings aren't invalid and she may naturally withdraw, it doesn't make it any less toxic.
As therapist Dr. Ellie Wilde said, "Trying to communicate with someone who is acting in this way can be frustrating, and if the stonewalling continues, infuriating." Communicating isn't easy, especially when hard topics come up. But working through issues together is a lot better than holding them inside.
4. Comparing him to other men

Whether it's parents comparing their daughters to a friend's or husbands comparing their wives to women they see on television, when a woman does this to her partner, it's not a good feeling. Not only is it disrespectful, but comparisons might actually have damaging impacts on mental health.
While wives might not see anything wrong with their actions or perhaps don't even notice they're doing it, it's important to tread carefully. If they don't like being compared to other women, they shouldn't do the exact same things to the man they love.
5. Giving the silent treatment

When a woman is fed up, she might suddenly become cold and silent as she feels her voice isn't being heard. While her feelings are understandable, the silent treatment won't do her any favors.
"In an intimate relationship, we expect a partner to be there for us in ways that help meet [our] needs. Silent treatment fails to satisfy these longings and also reflects withholding and emotional abandonment. It is a cutting form of passive aggression," psychologist Bernard Golden revealed.
6. Lacking shared goals

In a marriage, each person should be on the same page about where they're headed in the future. These discussions are crucial for the longevity of the relationship. Even if shared goals are unrealistic or harder to achieve, it's all about creating connection.
It's okay for people to change their minds. After being married for many years, couples might find that the things they once wanted aren't at the top of their priority list. But when that happens, couples need to come together and discuss it, not just pretend it's not happening.
7. Instigating constant conflict

Conflict in marriage is unavoidable. As relationship specialist Jen Elmquist reminded, "Couples believe that the presence of conflicts, particularly unsolvable ones, means that there is a fundamental problem with the overall relationship... the truth is that you are going to find sustainable conflict in any relationship you have with anyone."
But when it's constant and never-ending, a husband will start to question whether things are worth fixing. Arguing and belittling each other is unhealthy. When a wife wants to continue an argument but never come to a resolution, it breaks down the relationship.
8. Being disrespectful or embarrassing in public

Sometimes, without meaning to, a person may embarrass their partner in public or accidentally disrespect them. It may stem from a disagreement, but a healthy relationship means talking through the conflict and vowing to make realistic changes.
Every person has their own opinion, and sometimes it doesn't align with their partner's. But resorting to bad behavior won't fix anything. When a couple doesn't see eye to eye, that's okay. It's really how they go about fixing the problem that determines their relationship success.
9. Acting controlling or micromanaging

A marriage is supposed to be a give and take, an even split. Couples are meant to compromise and sacrifice. But when a wife is acting controlling or trying to micromanage her husband's every move, she's pushing him away. Because there's a difference between asking a few times for him to take out the trash, and tracking his phone to make sure he's home on time.
Some wives may take it too far, changing their relationship dynamics for the worse. Whether they’re making suggestions or straight-up telling their husband what to do, it's not helping their bond grow. Instead, a husband may feel suffocated and think about leaving.
10. Giving one-sided effort

Women often take on a majority of household chores and invisible labor, but men can also experience this. Maybe he plans all the dates or pays for everything, and receives nothing in return from his wife. When a wife puts in no effort, she's changing her relationship to be one-sided instead of an equal partnership.
Like anything in life, there will sometimes be a time when one person is giving more than they’re receiving. But it's all about finding the right balance. Rather than continuing to let things go unaddressed, a healthy couple needs to listen to each other's concerns.
11. Disregarding his friends or family

Couples understand that they don’t just marry a person, they also marry into the family, for better or worse. While there's nothing wrong with setting boundaries with a spouse's family, when a wife, in particular, crosses the line and makes things hostile, that's a problem.
She may disregard his family or even his friends, causing tension. Even if her husband's family is toxic, it's all about staying civil and trying to see eye to eye. Rather than having an adult discussion, avoiding in-laws altogether won't do anything but cause resentment.
