To The Person Who Will Love Me Next

Starting new relationships can be tough after a while, but they don’t have to be taken for granted. It’s great to start swimming around in the dating pool again and open up to some new companions.

But make sure you know what you’re getting into before you dive too deep, and try to remember to communicate a few thoughts like these to your next significant other.

It’s important to remember that I am a person, too.

I’m not your toy, your property, or your punching bag for when you have a bad day. I have my own thoughts, feelings, opinions, ideas, and dreams just like you do.

If we aren’t equals to start, why should we change who we are and how we view each other? If you can’t see me like I see you, please tell me now before this goes any further.

I’m not going to take any ignorance anymore because I don’t have to.

If I have something to say, I hope you’ll listen to it, and if you don’t hear it the first or second time, who’s to say you’ll hear it the third or fourth? I’m not talking about nagging or reminders, I mean about life goals and where I want to go.

I will listen to your every last whim and desire as long as you’ll listen to mine, too.

Please care about things beyond yourself.

I hope you care about the bad in the world, the good in the world, the hopeful things and the sad things. I hope you can stand a trip to the local animal sanctuary or regular volunteering.

I hope you can handle me when I get anxious about being around people, and also when all I want is to be around people.

I’ll continue to care about the world as I can in the hopes that you’ll be there right by my side along the way.

Passion is the fire that lights all things.

I don’t know what I want to do after I complete my bachelor’s degree, and that’s okay because I know my passion for stars and space exploration is keeping me on the right track.

It’s okay if you don’t know what you want to be when you grow up just yet because there’s still time.

I just hope you don’t give up on all the things you want to do before it’s too late.

If you quit on all of your dreams, please quit on me if you can’t keep me in your heart either.

I’m not a cookie-cutter girl. I’m a wildflower, you don’t know what I’m capable of or what I’m going to do next. Whether you want a calm, little daisy or clever, wily dandelion, I am not a cookie-cutter romancer.

I am me and I will not change my entire life around for you, since my past has molded me into who I am, not who you want me to be.

You don’t own me and I don’t own you; again, we are who we are and that’s okay. I don’t mean to scare you away or cut anybody out, but these words are meant to be shared.

Will we share our experiences, passions, and love perfectly like a little china doll? Maybe, maybe not — only time can tell that.

I can assure you, I’m ready to give you a shot and hope for the best as we write our story... No, stories have endings.

We’ll write our own saga that will be a tale as old as time.
