Entertainment And News

This news is so tragic — and completely unexpected: Josie Harris was found dead on Tuesday, March 11 at just 40 years old.

Harris was best known for her turbulent relationship with Floyd Mayweather, although they haven't been in a relationship for years.

But how did Josie Harris die? The situation is still developing, but here's everything we know so far.

1. Harris was found dead in her car outside her home.

On Wednesday, it was reported Harris was found dead in her car parked outside her Valencia, CA home on Tuesday night when law enforcement was called to her home. Harris was then pronounced dead at the scene. Unfortunately, there are limited details about what else may have been happening at the home at the time but this certainly seems like it came out of nowhere.

2. How did Josie Harris die? There's no clear-cut answer to that question.

There's no official cause of death quite yet, although it sounds like police aren't concerned about homicide. According to what law enforcement sources have said so far, they don't suspect that any foul play was involved, though an investigation into the situation is still ongoing.

3. Mayweather previously served time for domestic violence against Harris.

Mayweather and Harris dated from 1995 to 2010. In 2010, he was sentenced to 90 days in jail after an incident with Harris where he allegedly punched her and pulled her hair during an argument as their children looked on. The sentencing came after Mayweather pled guilty to reduced domestic violence charges and no contest to harrassment charges.

4. Harris and Mayweather were still in a legal battle at the time of her death.

Going all the way back to 2015, Harris had filed a $20 million defamation lawsuit against Mayweather for comments he'd made about her in an interview with Katie Couric. Last fall, a trial date was set for December 2020 that would see both of them in court in Los Angeles after years of their legal battle.

5. They had three children together.

During their time together, Mayweather and Harris had three children: Koraun, 20,  Jirah, 15, and Zion, 18. So far, none of the children have spoken out online about their mother's death, as it seems the family is keeping things to themselves for the time being. After Harris' split from Mayweather, they were embroiled in an ongoing custody battle on top of the other legal battles they faced.

6. Her rep has also confirmed her death without revealing any details.

In a statement, Harris' rep kept it short and simple, saying, "Unfortunately, the report is true. We will truly miss Josie."

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department also released a statement, which said, "There is a death investigation, but there is no name that the Sheriff’s Department has to release at this time. On Tuesday, Mar. 10, at approximately 10 pm, the Sheriff’s Department did respond to a death investigation at 25700 Block of Oak Meadow Drive in Valencia, CA, and there was a female adult that was found deceased.”
