Connecticut Mom Stabbed 30 Times By Husband While Son Calls 911

Facebook This past Sunday, Connecticut mom Monica Dominguez passed away, just days after her husband allegedly stabbed her nearly 30 times in a blowout fight. The unwarranted tragedy has since made national and local headlines, serving as yet another incident of domestic violence that’s become an all too familiar (and horrific) story.

1. Monica Dominguez lived in Cheshire, Connecticut.
She and her husband, Emanuel Dominguez-VillaGomez, purchased their home this past March. Up until her death, she was enjoying all-around personal success: this past June, she graduated from Post University in Waterbury as a Dean’s list student; and she was working as an engineer at DRT Power Systems in Meriden.
2. The domestic incident happened on September 11 around 8:40 p.m.
Dominguez’s 11-year-old son made the call, stating his stepfather, VillaGomez, was choking his mother. This prompted police to arrive at the scene where they later found victim Monica Dominguez in a pool of her own blood. She was then immediately rushed to St. Mary’s Hospital, and her husband has since been charged with first-degree assault, risk of injury to a minor, first-degree reckless endangerment and first-degree unlawful restraint.
3. At the scene, Dominguez was able to inform authorities that her husband tried to kill her.
Despite her apparent injuries, Dominguez allegedly informed paramedics that, “he tried to kill me” and, “he [said] I cheated on him,” referring to her husband. According to the affidavit, he told police, “We argued. She grabbed knives. She had it and I just went crazy.”
4. Both she and her husband suffered from knife wounds.
The ghastly altercation left Dominguez and VillaGomez battered from stab wounds, with hers more severe in nature. Both were taken to different hospitals as a result.
5. After being released from the hospital, her husband was arrested.
VillaGomez is currently being held on bond, which increased from $750,000 to $1 million when his wife was pronounced dead. He has yet to be charged in Dominguez’s death (in addition to his numerous charges from the domestic incident); however, he is expected to appear in New Haven Superior Court, where his case has been transferred.
6. Prior to this brutal domestic assault, Dominguez had filed for divorce.
Sources say she had filed for a divorce two months ago. According to My Record Journal, “Dominguez represented herself in the divorce filing and listed irreconcilable differences as her reason for ending the marriage. She sought primary residency for their almost two-year-old daughter, with Dominguez-VillaGomez receiving joint custody and visitation.” In response, her husband hired a local attorney to represent him in the proceedings and case management session set for November 12.
7. What’s next in this case?
Dominguez’s children are in the care of the state Department of Children and Families, while her husband is awaiting his fate. Hopefully, justice will be served in honor of all domestic violence victims and survivors. We’ll have to wait and see what happens next!
