Jonathan Scott and Zooey Deschanel have tongues wagging! The two apparently met in early August while Jonathan and his brother Drew were filming an episode of Carpool Karaoke with Zooey and her sister Emily. On August 5, he tweeted a photo of the four of them and wrote: "Met some new humans today. We had fun. I think I'll keep them." Just last week, Hollywood Life published photos of the Property Brothers and the recently separated actress holding hands at dinner in the Silver Lake neighborhood of Los Angeles. Are Jonathan Scott and Zooey Deschanel dating?
1. She just split from her husband
Zooey Deschanel just split from her husband, film producer Jacob Pechenik on September 6. According to sources, the marriage had been over for months before they went public with the news. They released a joint statement saying: "After much discussion and a long period of contemplation we have decided we are better off as friends, business partners and co-parents rather than life partners." Zooey and Jacob married in June 2015, just one month before their first child, a daughter named Elsie was born. They also have a two-year-old son named Charlie.
2. Friends first
A source close to the couple told People that Jonathan and Zooey were friends before they started dating. Well, they were friends for a month at least, since they just met in early August while filming Carpool Karaoke. The source said: “They were doing 'Carpool Karaoke' and they had a really fun day. They became friends after and then started talking as friends and realized there was more to it. It’s still a very new relationship.”
3. Things in common
If you're wondering what a TV contractor and actress from a famous family have in common, don't worry. The source said, "He has a great sense of humor. They have a lot of the same interests. They both love music and movies.”
4. His past loves
Scott married his longtime girlfriend Kelsy Ully in 2007. She was a crew scheduler for WestJet. After they moved to Las Vegas, a series of challenges irreparably damaged their relationship and they split in 2010 after seven years together. Scott was in the midst of filming the first season of Property Brothers at the time. He went on to date Jacinta Kuznetsov for awhile. They broke up in April 2018.
5. He wants kids
Jonathan Scott has made it clear that he wants to have children before he turns 45. The now 40-year-old plans to adopt if he's not in a relationship.
6. Playing coy
Last weekend, Jonathan was asked whether or not he and Zooey are dating. He said: “I am seeing someone. I’m a very private person, so I don’t typically talk about that. It’s definitely special for me because I am the guy who raises the bar in what I’m looking for in a partner. I was caught a little off-guard. It was definitely a pleasant surprise.”
