But sometimes, they also feature some pretty great movies as well! And a recent movie that just started streaming earlier this month is called The Last Summer.
It’s a film about a group of teenage friends who struggle to deal with their ambitions, relationships, and identities the summer before leaving for college. Actors like KJ Apa, Tyler Posey, and Halston Sage all star in the movie, and though we may not know their names from the big screen, these newcomers bring us something fresh.
So, who plays Audrie in The Last Summer on Netflix? Her name is Sosie Bacon, and if she sounds familiar, it’s probably because you’ve heard of her famous parents. Here are six things to know about the young actress.
1. Her parents are famous.
Sosie is the daughter of actors Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick! Sedgwick named Sosie after Miss Rose White’s art director, Sosie Hublitz, which the actress just finished filming before giving birth.
2. But she had a normal life.
Growing up, her parents kept their acting careers separate from raising their daughter. In fact, they didn’t want Sosie to get into acting at all, lest it interfere with her education. But when James Duff, the producer of The Closer, wanted to have Sosie on the show, it took some convincing. Sedgwick says Duff went directly to her daughter, and she accepted the role.
3. She’s since gone on to make a career out of it.
Sosie was eventually cast as the 10-year-old version of Emily, her mother’s character in Loverboy. And after this role, she was cast as her mother’s niece on the show The Closer, which Sedgwick starred in. She appeared in four episodes. Sosie was also in Story of a Girl, Charlie Says, Here and Now, and played Skye Miller in 13 Reasons Why.
4. But she’s also into theater.
After appearing on The Closer, she studied musical theatre at CAP21, as well as Brown University. She was in the cast of the 2012 Off-Broadway musical, Fiction in Photographs.
5. She was crowned Miss Golden Globe 2014.
The award is chosen each year by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, and is usually awarded to the daughter of a celebrity. The year before, Francesca Eastwood, the daughter of Clint Eastwood, was given the award.
6. She has the same tattoo as the rest of her family!
While appearing on the Late Late Show with James Corden, Sedgwick revealed that she, Kevin, Sosie, and her son, Travis, all have the same tattoo. The family was out to dinner when Sedgwick posed the idea.
“We were on our way to dinner one night and I said, ‘Let’s all get really drunk and get tattoos!’ It was a total bad joke,” she said. But while they were at dinner, Kevin began sketching a design. “A couple of years later, we all got our tattoos. We have a family tattoo with all of our initials on it.”
