Christopher Edwin Breaux, better known as Frank Ocean, is an artist. He is a singer, songwriter, rapper, record producer and photographer. The 31-year old legally adopted his stage name in 2014 and it was finalized a year later in April 2015. He was born in Long Beach, California. When he ws five-years-old, his family moved to New Orleans. Ocean's mother turned him on to music as a young child by playing recordings by jazz musicians as well as Anita Baker, Celine Dion, and the soundtrack to The Phantom of the Opera. Ocean new from a young age that he would pursue a career in music. Ocean signed his first contract in 2009 with Def Jam. In 2011 he released his first mixtape which focused on personal reflection, interpersonal relationships and social commentary. His debut album Channel Orange was released in 2012. It was named best album of the year and earned him six Grammy Award nominations. His last album Blonde was released in 2016. The album was certified platinum.
While people know quite a bit about his career, outside of his music Frank Ocean isn’t very public about his personal life... until recently. He recently revealed that he has been in a relationship with a mystery man for years. Who is Frank Ocean's boyfriend?

1. First announced details about his love life in 2012
On Independence Day in 2012, Ocean published an open letter on his Tumblr that spoke about a past love. He admitted that at the age of 19 he had feelings for another young man, his first true love. Ocean went on to explain how the young man had influenced his life and how free he felt since he had shared his story.
“4 summers ago, I met somebody. I was 19 years old. He was too. We spent that summer, and the summer after, together. Everyday almost. And on the days we were together, time would glide,” the “Swim Good” singer wrote at the time. “Most of the day I’d see him, and his smile. I’d hear his conversation and his silence. Until it was time to sleep. Sleep I would often share with him. By the time I realized I was in love it was malignant. It was hopeless. There was no escaping, no negotiating with the feeling. No choice. It was my first love. It changed my life. Back then, my mind would wander to the women I had been with, the ones I cared for and thought I was in love with. I reminisced about the sentimental songs I enjoyed when I was a teenager, the ones I played when I experienced a girlfriend for the first time. I realized they were written in a language I did not yet speak.”
The post received positive feedback and Russell Simmons was one of many in the music industry who shared his reaction to the announcement.
“Today’s a big day for hip-hop,” he said. It is a day that will define who we really are.” He continued “Your decision to go public about your sexual orientation gives hope and light to so many young people still living in fear.”

2. He opened up about his father in 2016
The shooting that occurred at Pulse Nightclub in Orlando in 2016 inspired Ocean to express his frustrations. He spoke about biphobia through the form of an essay. The published essay shared his first experience with biphobia which happened when he was six years old. He stated that so many people have suicidal tendencies because of the hateful ideas that are passed down through generations in families. Ocean’s father wasn’t too happy about the claim that he was homophobic and as a result he sued Ocean for $14.5 million dollars.

3. He is trying to be more open
Fans don’t know much about Ocean’s personal life. Ocean isn’t very active on social media. He deleted his Twitter a few years ago and just recently made his Instagram public. This makes it hard to actually find out anything about him unless he wants you to know, especially when it concerns his love life. During an interview, Ocean told GayLetter that he believed social media was hyped up and that he didn’t know if it was the best place to really ingest information. However, he has been posting himself rock climbing.
In a continued effort to be open, Ocean told GayLetter he would be doing more interviews. Ocean was asked what inspired him to make the decision to do more interviews.
“I don’t know if it’s terribly calculated, but I’m just trying to put myself more into whatever kind of stream is going on here in culture,” he responded. “I don’t think my feelings about press have anything to do with how times are changing. I think it’s more a feeling.”
4. He is in a relationship
During the interview, Ocean revealed, when asked if he was dating, that he was in a long term relationship. It is one of the reasons why he doesn’t use dating apps. “I don’t use dating apps. I’ve been in a relationship for three years. I definitely wasn’t using dating apps before then. I don’t think I would use dating apps now. I [mess] with Marc Jacobs’ philosophy on that, so I wouldn’t rule it out, but it is a little hectic being a famous person on dating apps.
Ocean didn’t give any more information as to who his significant other was.

5. He shared some other interesting facts about himself
Ocean shared quite a bit about himself in the interview. One fact he pointed out was that he is 6’1 despite Wikipedia stating that he is only 5’10. The singer enjoys watching shows including Grown-Ish, Chef’s Table, Handmaid’s Tale and Yara. He also really enjoys rock climbing and posts it on his Instagram page.
As always, Ocean continues to work on his music and wishes to go back to school. In 2005, he enrolled at the University of New Orleans to study music. Hurricane Katrina badly damaged the campus, focing him to transfer to another school. Then the Def Jam contract happened. These days, Ocean is studying French.
