Who Is William 'Billy' Evans? New Details About Elizabeth Holmes' Fiancé
The alleged Silicon Valley con-artist is engaged.
Getty If you're not well-versed in Silicon Valley news, the name Elizabeth Holmes might not ring any bells. After she climbed the ranks at healthcare start-up Theranos, of which she became CEO of in 2014. While she may have seemed like a promising new leader at the beginning of her career, it came out 20 months later that she was involved in an "elaborate years-long" fraud that took advantage of millions.
This past Sunday, HBO released the documentary The Inventor: Out for Blood in Silicon Valley, which detailed both the rise and fall of Silicon Valley's "darling."
Holmes was charged with criminal fraud after she and her ex, former Thernaos COO Ramesh "Sunny" Balwani were accused of defrauding investors, doctors and patients. She claimed that a portable machine called Edison could provide patients with a comprehensive blood test that would only require a single drop of blood. She has maintained her innocence and has pleaded not guilty. If convicted, she could face decades in prison.
Among the details of her crimes, the documentary also revealed that Holmes, 35, is engaged to a man named "William "Billy" Evans, 27.
So who is "William "Billy" Evans? Here's everything we know about Elizabeth Holmes' fiancé.

1. He comes from a well-known family.
Evans isn't just your average "Billy." His grandparents founded the Evans Hotel Group, a business that currently owns at least three popular resorts in California: the Catamaran, the Baha and The Lodge at Torrey Pines.
His parents, William and Susan Evans, raised their kids in the San Diego Area, which is where William and Anne, the grandparents, started the hotel-owning business in 1953. Anne is still the chairman emeritus of the hotel group. Her husband passed away in 1984, and William and her other child, Grace, joined the company.
Both Grace and William's spouses have also joined the group; making the five of them the leadership team for the Evans Hotel Group. The young Evans' father is described as "a passionate collector of California Impressionist art, rare specimen palm trees and subtropical plants, and antique racing automobiles," on the company's website, and his mother "made the commitment to dedicate herself to raising their three children – Billy, Rex, and Gracie—before accepting her current position."
2. He also works in tech.
Evans reportedly graduated from M.I.T. in 2015 with a bachelor's degree in science and economics. He worked at Linked In and Luminar Technologies, a California-based company that's trying to create and mass market driverless cars.
According to Vanity Fair, Holmes "wears his M.I.T. signet ring on a necklace and the couple regularly post stories on Instagram professing their love for each other." Both of their social media pages are private, but the magazine was happy to share.
“For everyone asking about Holmes’s social media. It’s private. But here are a few screenshots of her and her fiancé we found online. (I personally find it crazy that she’s being charged with 11 felony counts, thousands of people’s lives were harmed, and she’s as happy as can be.)"
One of the photos, a kissing selfie, was captioned: “Happy bday to my best friend. The last year has been the best I’ve ever had.”
3. They live in San Francisco.
Evans and Holmes reportedly live in a luxury apartment in San Francisco with her wolf-dog, Balto. She had adopted the dog as her company was falling apart, and often refers to him as Baltisimo.
4. They've been living a relatively care-free life at the moment.
Despite all the chaos and crime that's surrounded Holmes this past year, she seems to be enjoying her life with Evans. Last year, as her company was closing its doors for good, she and her husband-to-be went to party at Burning Man.
In photos published by Vanity Fair, she was wearing purple sunglasses and a blazer with sequined pinstripes and a fur collar while Evans donned a military hat and a t-shirt that said "Sex Breakfast of Champions."
5. It's not clear what they'll do if she goes to prison.
Details about their impending nuptials have not been revealed. However, the Daily Mail noted that the fact Holmes is wearing his M.I.T. ring and not an engagement ring could be a practical move.
Since she's being sued for millions of dollars, it makes sense that she wouldn't want to have a pricey diamond ring that she might have to land over as payment if she loses those suits.
