Larsa Pippen was spotted running errands over the weekend in Los Angeles, sporting a rather casual outfit—save for the diamond ring on her finger.
Larsa, 44, filed for divorce from her husband of over 20 years, Scottie Pippen, 52, in November 2018. According to the papers filed at the Los Angeles Superior Court, Larsa cited they were splitting for “irreconcilable differences."
Like some of the Kardashian sisters, Larsa’s romantic history is linked to the NBA. Scottie Pippen was a basketball giant.
Why Larsa Pippen was wearing the ring has yet to be seen. But this is not the first, nor second time she has been given a diamond ring, and not necessarily for an engagement.
Below are the facts about Larsa’s rocky relationship history. She also has some opinions about the scandal surrounding close pal Khloe Kardashian in February that might clue into her own romantic standing. Larsa may still technically be married, but the divorce has evidently been a long time coming. She may have appeared happy and smiling with her bejeweled finger this weekend, but her life has been through some intense ups and downs over the past few years.
So is Larsa Pippen engaged? Here's what we know.
1. Scottie originally filed for divorce in 2016 during a controversy.
Late in October 2016, two voice recordings surfaced that caused public outcry—and supposedly for Scottie’s filing. The recordings were of Larsa calling the police on her husband. She alleged that he was being verbally abusive towards her.
“Can you send someone over here? My husband’s being really aggressive with me,” she’s heard saying in the first call, made on Oct. 1. Then, on the second call made a few days later on Oct. 4, she says, “My husband’s gotten crazy again with me.”
Scottie filed for divorce two weeks after the calls were made, on Oct. 18. His lawyer, Roberta G. Stanley, released a statement in late October regarding the calls and the couple’s impending divorce.
“Mr. Pippen is aware that some members of the press have obtained 911 recordings recently made by Ms. Pippen. While these recordings speak for themselves, Ms. Pippen did not make any allegations of physical violence by Mr. Pippen. Although Mr. and Ms. Pippen both have public personas, their divorce is a private matter. Mr. Pippen requests that the press respect his privacy and that of his family during this time.”
No arrests were made following either call.
“This is a very difficult time for Mr. Pippen,” his lawyer told PEOPLE magazine shortly after news about the divorce came out. “He is hopeful that the divorce will be swift and amicable.”
2. In February 2017 they reconciled—with a diamond ring.
Their separation did not last long. They reunited about four months later, in early February. Scottie and Larsa were seen together in Los Angeles, along with LL Cool J, Kourtney Kardashian and Richard Weitz.
The same day they were spotted together, Larsa showed off an early Valentine’s Day gift. She posted a picture of a diamond ring on Snapchat with the caption, “My valentines present! Thx Fourteen Karats.” Larsa did not specify who her admirer was.
3. They tried to make it work.
A source told PEOPLE the couple wasn’t ready to give up: “They are working on their relationship."
“I think they were always trying to find a common ground. For a while, they didn’t see eye to eye, but they’ve been married for 20 years, they have four kids.”
Larsa and Scottie got married in 1997. The former NBA star was married before to Karen McCollum from 1988 to 1990 and had a son with her. He also has a daughter with former girlfriend Sonya Roby, and a daughter with former fiancée Yvette De Leon. Larsa and Scottie have three sons and one daughter together.
Shortly after the divorce was announced, Larsa was linked with rapper Future. But sources close to Larsa told TMZ they’re just friends.
Despite their histories and marital struggles, and their apparent reunion, a source told People their focus was on their children. The source said they were living together but navigating their way to a permanent split. For both of them, the priority was “to do what’s best for the kids right now.”
They took a family vacation in April 2017; Scottie documented the trip on Instagram.
4. Larsa filed again in November 2018.
The split may, at last, be finalized over two years after Scottie first initiated it. This time Larsa filed.
She told Us Weekly about their separation.
“It is with deep sadness that Scottie and I announce that we are legally separating. We both tried very hard for a long time to make our marriage work and have ultimately come to the conclusion that it is best that we live separate lives. We have so many amazing memories together, remain best of friends and love each other very much. Our four children have always been our priority and for their sake we ask for as much privacy as possible for our family during this sensitive time.”
5. Larsa recently gave her two cents regarding Jordyn Woods.
She left a comment on Instagram that showed exactly whose side she was on.
“Can’t wait to see which version of her story she tells,” Larsa said in response to Hollywood Unlocked’s post about Jordyn Woods’ appearance on Red Table Talk. “Hope it’s the same she told @khloekardashian when she checked her.”
