New year, new relationship — at least for Jim Carrey!
The actor is officially dating actress Ginger Gonzaga. The new couple debuted their relationship when they attended both the Showtime Golden Globes nominees event and the 2019 Golden Globes award show together. This is Carrey's first romantic relationship since his one with Cathriona White, who sadly passed away in 2015.
However, the actor appeared to be very happy as he was seen raving about his new girlfriend on the red carpet, calling her "smart, talented, and beautiful." So who is Ginger Gonzaga?
Here are some details about actor Jim Carrey's new lady.
1. She's college educated.
Before entering into the entertainment world, Gonzaga studied at UC Santa Barbara. She graduated with a degree in Political Science/International Relations and a minor in Chinese.
Although she originally planned to become a lawyer, Gonzaga once admitted that she eventually realized that being a performer was her true calling. "While I was at college, I just realized it definitely wasn’t what I wanted to do. I like performing and being funny. I always wanted to be on ‘Saturday Night Live. I did ‘SNL’ sketches with friends in high school. And at that time, all of the people on ‘SNL’ were from the Groundlings," she revealed in an interview.
2. Gonzaga has had a lot of formal acting training.
After gaining her college degree, Gonzaga moved on to pursue a career in the entertainment industry. She took classes at two very well-known theaters, The Groundlings Theater and Second City Theater. Both theaters are known for launching the careers of many of their famous alums.
3. She's multi-talented.
Gonzaga has enjoyed a successful on-screen career in both television and movies, including Ted, Dean, Togetherness, and Anger Management. Aside from her various acting credits, Gonzaga is also a writer, director, singer, and voice actor. She has lent her voice to the popular series Family Guy many times and was a writer for the news show The Morning After.
4. Carrey and Gonzaga met in 2017 on the set of a show.
Although they currently play a couple on the Showtime series Kidding, Carrey and Gonzaga revealed that they actually first met each other on a different Showtime series. During their red carpet interview at the Golden Globes, the pair disclosed that they really met on the show I'm Dying Up Here, which Carrey served as a producer on.
Gonzaga stated that, "We didn't meet on Kidding... I was on another show that Jim produced. We are co-stars on Kidding, so it was just lovely." Carrey also weighed in on how they first met. "Yes. We started seeing each other after we finished the show, and we just really hit it off."
5. They have a big age difference between them.
Gonzaga and Carrey have a 22-year age gap. Gonzaga is 34 and Carrey is 56.
Their age difference doesn't seem to be having any kind of impact on their relationship however, as the pair have not been shy about showing their love and admiration for each other since recently debuting their coupling.
6. Carrey and Gonzaga have been seeing each other for a while.
Although the couple just made their relationship public in January 2019, they've actually been dating for a long time. Carrey officially confirmed at the Golden Globes that they started dating after wrapping on the show I'm Dying Up Here.
However, the actor also revealed in an interview from a few months ago that he was dating again, but didn't disclose any names at the time. In November 2018, Carrey told the Radio Times, "You could describe my home life as an isolated life. I spend a lot of time by myself but I like being by myself, so it’s OK. That might be strange to some people, but I enjoy it. I love to read and I enjoy painting and working on sculptures [in my free time]. And I date."
