He also drew criticism from his frequent traveling, using taxpayer money to fund first-class travel and chartered flights. But perhaps sneakiest of all, he circumvented the White House to give raises to his closest aides, by using a narrow provision of the Safe Drinking Water Act. By June, even conservatives were calling for his resignation and in July, he was replaced by Andrew R. Wheeler as head of the agency.

The family are members of the First Baptist Church of Broken Arrow, where Pruitt has served as a deacon. He was also a trustee at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.

The Judicial Crisis Network, a group that has worked to appoint conservative judges, employed her after Pruitt himself asked one of his aides to help find her a job.
