If A Guy Has These 3 Personality Traits, You're More Likely To Have Sex With Him
Science may explain why we prefer some men over others.
Pexels Researchers at Queensland University have found that there may be specific personality traits that influence how much sex men have.
The study centered around men and women in a 2016 Australian Sex Survey. They narrowed the survey to those who identified as heterosexual, which left them with samples of 3,000 men and 1,500 women. The survey asked about socio-demographic information, and participants took the Big 5 personality test.
The “Big 5” are core traits of an individual’s personality often used in psychology studies.
They are:
- Openness to experience: inventive/curious vs. consistent/cautious
- Conscientiousness: efficient/organized vs. easy-going/careless
- Extraversion-introversion: outgoing/energetic vs. solitary/reserved
- Agreeableness: friendly/compassionate vs. challenging/detached
- Neuroticism: sensitive/nervous vs. secure/confident
This study's findings are significant for people outside of academia. Behavioral economist Dr. Stephen Whyte wanted to look into a question that affects us all — sex.
“Little is known about the advantages, or disadvantages, personality traits provide in relation to sexual activity and offspring success," Whyte explained. "Science doesn’t really have a firm understanding around how personality traits influence human mating and reproductive behavior, and particularly whether certain personality types are favored by either males or females.”
So what types of men are women more likely to sleep with?
The scientific research found that men with these 3 of the "big 5" personality traits are the most like to have sex on a highly frequent basis.
1. Extroversion
This trait makes sense when it comes to getting lucky. Extroverted people draw their energy from being around other people — introverted people, in contrast, recharge when they’re alone.
Someone who loves going out and talking to others are more likely to have sex over someone who prefers Netflix and chilling on their own.
2. Conscientiousness
Conscientiousness has everything to do with personal success. Someone who is conscientious is careful and organized. Usually, this is thought of in the context of work and diligence in overall day-to-day life.
Conscientious people also seem to fall under a Type A personality. So when it comes to getting things done, people with this trait do it. A man who appears put together is certainly more likely to have more sex than others.
3. Emotional stability
In terms of the Big 5, this trait relates to “neuroticism.” Men who do not lean towards anxiety, self-doubt, depression, or so on are more likely to have more sex.
If he appears to not only have his life together but his mind together as well, he’s got a good chance with the ladies.
Women, on the other hand, had different results in the study.
“Our findings suggest that the greater variance in male traits and their particular combinations may provide an advantage for them when it comes to sex and reproduction but that doesn’t appear to be the case for the women we analyzed,” Dr. Whyte said.
The study did find that both extroverted men and women had sex more frequently than introverted men and women.
The New York Post spoke to Los Angeles-based marriage and family therapist Bianca Rodriguez about the results. She put the results in the context of women’s perspectives.
“Women want to feel safe, they want their feelings to be cherished. Women are more discerning than men when it comes to sex, and they’re looking for qualities in a man that would indicate stability, that they’ll stick around.”
