Since 2010, John Boozman has served as a U.S. Senator from Arkansas, as part of the Republican party. Before being elected, he was a Representative for Arkansas’ 3rd congressional district for 10 years.
Fresh out of college, he worked as an optometrist, eventually winning a special election in 2002 for the U.S. House of Representatives, acting as assistant majority whip.
Like most of the Republicans in the Senate, he voted to repeal the ACA, doesn’t support gun control, is against same-sex marriage, urged the president to withdraw from the Paris Agreement, and voted against the Employment Non-Discrimination Act. Though his views are popular in his home state of Arkansas, does his family agree?

1. They met in high school.
And they’ve been together ever since. Who says high school sweethearts can’t find forever love? The couple married in 1972.
2. They have three children.
The couple has three daughters: Kristen, Shannon, and Lauren.
3. They are also grandparents.
Back in 2015, they welcomed their second grandchild from one of their daughters.

4. They raised cattle.
The couple raised Polled Hereford cattle and competed in the show ring, as well as bull testing. It’s no wonder he fits in as part of the Arkansas Agriculture Committee.
5. She attempted to unite GOP spouses.
While many spouses of Senators tend to stay out of the limelight, Cathy Boozman was on a mission to unite her party. Back in 2011, she was named the bicameral coordinator of the Republican Congressional Spouses, a group that meets monthly for lunch and a lecture at the Capitol Hill Club.
“I’ve known wives who get so frustrated with all that they just never come back. You have to fight through that initial period. It’s like learning to roller-skate — it’s hard, but once you know how to do it, you’re fine,” Boozman said of his wife.
