Ahead of the 2018 World Series, the Los Angeles Dodgers' shortstop has attracted attention for some questionable slides that have earned him an MLB-wide reputation as a "dirty player."
According to ESPN, Machado reached public enemy #1 status in Milwaukee after a series of controversial slides and the near takeout of Brewers' first baseman, Jesus Aguilar, earlier this season.
While Machado has been raising eyebrows all over the county, his wife has attracted some media attention of her own in the wake of the Dodgers' advance to the World Series. So who is Manny Machado's wife?
Here's everything you need to know about the low-profile baseball WAG, Yainee Alonso.
1. She comes from the MLB bloodline.
Alonso may have married an MLB player, but she was already a member of the major league family.
Her older brother, Yonder Alonso, is the first baseman for the Cleveland Indians. Prior to signing a 2-year contract with the Indians in 2017, Alonso previously played for the Seattle Mariners, the San Diego Padres, and the Cincinnati Reds.
2. She met Machado through her older brother.
Machado was close with the fellow major league player well before they became brothers-in-law.
"He would come over to the house every single day," Yonder told USA Today back in 2013. "Then, it was like, 'Hey, man, you're not coming over to the house every day just to see me, man. What is the deal here, dude?'"
After the three went on vacation to Spain together in 2011, Machado asked Yonder if he could date Yainee.
"I told him, 'Look, as long as you respect her and be there for her,'" said Yonder in the same article. "And whatever happens, just know if something happens between you guys we're still friends. We were friends before, and we'll be friends afterward."
3. She's a former Miami Hurricanes cheerleader.
Like her older brother, Alonso attended the University of Miami, where she was a member of the cheerleading team. She graduated from the university in 2012 with a degree in psychology.
4. The proposal didn't exactly go as planned
Machado proposed in February of 2013, when he was just 20 years old. According to USA Today, the less than picture perfect engagement featured a broken sink, a postponed dinner, and some unexpected guests on the beach where Machado planned to propose.
"I was a mess," Machado told the news outlet. "I was struggling to get the ring out. It was stuck in my pocket."
5. She and Machado have been married since 2014.
Even if the South Beach proposal didn't exactly go off without a hitch, the couple made up for it with a gorgeous Paris wedding the following year.
6. They're proud dog parents
The couple has multiple adorable pups together, including Kobe, who Yainee named after Kobe Bryant. While Machado allegedly prefers the Miami Heat to Alonso's beloved Lakers, he seems to have come around.
7. She keeps a low profile.
While Yainee makes frequent appearances on both her husband's and brother's Instagram accounts, she doesn't seem to have any public social media profiles herself.
However, Alonso's low-key public persona hasn't stopped this low-profile MLB WAG from attracting media attention. She's been featured on Fabwags.com as "Manny Machado's pretty wife," and thesportsdaily.com called her a "blonde bombshell" back in July.
While her husband takes on the World Series, Yainee Alonso seems to have attracted a growing fanbase of her own. For now, however, fans of the low-profile beauty will have to stick to Machado's Instagram for updates on the undercover WAG.
