They share the same last name.

While Chuck Schumer is a U.S. Senator from New York and Amy Schumer is a comedienne and actress, do the two share more than just a last name? Are Senator Charles Schumer and Amy Schumer related?
Well, these two names have been swirling around the internet (and our lives) for quite some time now, but sharing the same last name doesn’t necessarily indicate any form of relation between two people. I mean, how many people do you know with the last name Jackson or Smith who are actually related? Not too many, I’d assume.
But in the case of the Senator and comedienne, the two actually are related!
That’s right, they are, in fact, distant cousins. He is Amy Schumer’s father’s cousin, making he and Amy first cousins once removed.

In a 2011 interview with LA Weekly, Amy Schumer said, “He is not my uncle, he is my dad's cousin, I don't even think they are first cousins. He knows I exist, I have run into him a few times in NYC, but I highly doubt he has ever seen my act. Something for him to look forward to!”
But since then, the two have worked together to fight gun violence and help push for stricter gun-control laws.
This all began after a shooting at a screening of Amy’s movie, Trainwreck, in Lafayette, LA. In a joint press conference, the two revealed the Senator’s plan to fight gun violence, with Amy standing beside him.
Amy also defended him against President Trump’s rude tweets regarding Chuck’s tearful response to his immigration policies that separate children and families at the Mexico-U.S. border.

She wrote on Instagram that her cousin didn’t cry “fake tears,” saying, “I know Chuck Schumer and HE CANNOT act, trust me. He can barely smile on cue. He can't help but be transparent and genuine.”
So, yes, while many people you know with the last name aren’t actually related, these two are. And they seem to have made the best of their shared family name.
