Mac Miller's death shook the music community and has brought many mourning fans together.

The 26-year-old, whose real name was Malcolm McCormick, was found dead Sept. 7 in his San Fernando Valley home from a suspected overdose, although the official cause of death has not been released. Authorities reported that he had been deceased for hours before police arrived. 

Authorities rushed to Miller's California residence after his assistant made a frantic 911 call when he found the young rapper unresponsive following a party with friends.

An insider told PEOPLE that Miller's death was "such a shock" because Miller, who just released his album SWIMMING Sept. 3, had been watching football with close pals the evening before his death. 

“Everyone who he worked with was aware that he was delicate, but thought it was because of the new album, nerves, nothing like this," the insider added.

The rapper's body is reportedly being flown to his hometown of Pittsburgh on Wednesday where a Jewish service will be held later this week, according to TMZ

A local Pittsburgh record label hosted a memorial for the beloved artist on Tuesday at the local park he named his 2011 debut album after, Blue Side Park.

"We would like to bring the city together in full force for this legendary icon,"  Nightfall Records posted on Facebook. "Mac deserves to be sent off with an evening of celebrating his life, discussing his struggles, and remembering his stories; most importantly for his iconic work that brought joy into the lives of everybody who listened. We are welcoming all artists to come and paint, create, draw, live tribute art for this event."

Thousands showed up at Miller's childhood hangout spot to honor the Self Care singer. 

Grieving fans covered the park with flowers, candles, letters, photos, signs, and more to show their respects and sadness over Miller's tragic death that devastated so many people all over the world.

Miller's grandmother spoke at the event and thanked everyone who came out to remember her grandson.

"He loves you all, he loves Pittsburgh and everything you have done for him," she said.

A petition to change the name of the park to “Mac Miller Blue Slide Park" in his honor was being signed at the vigil. Heartbroken fans even placed memorabilia outside Miller's home where he was found dead. 

Miller's music streams have increased 970% in the U.S. since his death, according to Billboard. 

Awareness of addiction and drug abuse is being pushed as a result of Miller's death. The "Donald Trump" singer openly spoke of his long-term struggle with substance abuse but eventually lost the battle.
