Laverne Cox, perhaps best known for her role on the Netflix series Orange Is the New Black, has revealed key details about her boyfriend over the past year, at first remaining tight-lipped about the man’s identity.
Who is Laverne Cox's boyfriend? The mystery man, who has since been revealed to be Kyle Draper, met Laverne in a surprising yet common way. Since then, it seems that their relationship has only blossomed and grown. Read on to find out all about their relationship, as well as how Laverne feels about her beau!
1. Kyle’s resume is impressive!
According to PinkNews, Kyle has a long list of professional credentials. He serves as the CEO of a record label called Mateo Sound, founded real estate firm Serene Team, and is a regional director of real estate company Keller Williams Downtown. On his Instagram page, he lists some of these professional roles as well as describing himself as an “entrepreneur” and a “motivator.”
2. They met on Tinder (but it almost didn’t happen).
After breaking up with her last boyfriend, Laverne returned to Tinder. “When I broke up with my ex I went back on Tinder, ‘cause I feel like if you want to date, you have to be on the apps,” Laverne said in an interview with Access Hollywood.
Though she seemed determined to find love, it seems that Laverne’s first meeting with Kyle happened by chance. “It’s really dumb luck that we met and clicked,” she told People.
3. Their first date was very lowkey.
In the Access Hollywood interview, Laverne revealed her strategy when it comes to first dates with the guys she meets on Tinder, and how it paid off when she met Kyle.
“If I was coming from an event and I already had makeup on, great. But I’m not putting effort into a guy that I don’t know yet, you might not look like your pictures, you might smell,” Laverne said. “I showed up on the date with like no makeup, some jean shorts, and it worked out.”
4. Laverne feels the relationship is promising.
“We’re still together, it’s amazing,” Laverne told Access Hollywood eight months after her relationship with Kyle began. “I’m in love, yeah, it’s incredible.”
She further discussed her feelings about Kyle and the relationship with People. “I like to be in the moment and not think the future, and [right now] I’m very grateful that I get to experience this,” she said. “It’s so deeply connecting. It’s just a full spiritual experience. … I’ve never felt a man as all-in as he is.”
5. They have both met each other’s families.
Laverne has said that Kyle has met her mom and that she has met his parents as well. She dished about the dynamics between the families to Access Hollywood. “Everybody gets along, his family is amazing, my mom likes him, so it’s good.”
6. She introduced him publicly on Instagram in April.
For months, Laverne remained coy about Kyle’s identity. Even her first Instagram story with him kept people guessing. According to People, the Instagram story showing the two smiling while in bed kept his name under wraps. However, Laverne made her feelings for Kyle obvious by adding fourteen hearts.
7. They’ve been dating for over a year (and they’re still going strong).
In July 2018, Laverne posted on Instagram to celebrate their one-year anniversary. “Happy 1 year anniversary babe. I love you so much!” Laverne wrote in the post.
8. Kyle has been open about his love for Laverne.
Kyle’s Instagram feed is filled with images of the couple and loving comments toward Laverne. “Happy bday to my Queen,” he wrote in one post. “Another incredible adventure w this one last night at the iHeartRadio Music Awards,” said another.
