Jonathan, an Irish actor, is known for starring in TV series such as VikingsRoots, and The Tudors. Mara, an actor from the U.S., has appeared in many short films as well as TV series like Love Struck and Modern Music.

Both members of the couple worked on the 2017 film Damascus CoverJonathan was one of the stars and Mara was a co-producer for the film.

2. Jonathan Rhys Meyers was arrested following a “domestic dispute.”

On July 8, 2018, police detained Jonathan at Los Angeles International Airport following a “domestic dispute” onboard an American Airlines flight. According to Page Six, Los Angeles Police indicated that the incident stemmed from Meyers’ use of a vape pen, which is against airline regulations, and subsequent combative statements made by Meyers toward his wife and the flight crew when they told him to put it away.

A passenger who claims to have been sitting near Meyers in first-class described the incident to The Daily Mail. “[The flight crew] told [Mara] that if [Jonathan] didn’t stop using the e-cigarette we’d have to land the plane early and get him off so she tried to tell him that,” said the passenger. “That’s when he really lost it, he was yelling at her ‘f*** you, shut the f*** up, I’m divorcing you when I get back, you’re annoying leave me the f*** alone.’ Then he was ranting and screaming: ‘Who says I'm using e-cigarettes? Who? Who? Show me who said it.’”

9/7/17 Forever Young With much sadness, we open our hearts to share that J and I lost our second child, who was baking in the oven. Child was very very much wanted (right now especially by J, so he took the news particularly not so well) and we are still working with coping skills over here... when life throws us curve balls such as these. Depression is a real concern from past abuse as well as alcoholism which he was born with. He has been able to turn any ugliness and hurt in his life into art and is the strongest person I know. I do not know anyone who has been through what he has been through and reached his level of successes. It does seem though that every time we seem to be making so much progress... sometimes it's like two steps forward, one step back. Thank you family and friends and all of you lovely kind beautiful people who send us good energy and thoughts and support. It is so appreciated. I have so much love for you. To some others, my husband is an Irishman who battles alcoholism and depression and drank between jobs to try to cope with the sadness of this news. I am trying to and still learning/adjusting to living with the public, like one would as a concerned mother-in-law. I feel that whomever took photos of my husband was slightly in the wrong and was concerned for the wrong reasons but ... it's ok. It's ok. Maybe you have/had a family to feed and need/needed money? I don't know. We forgive you. He is safe and with his sober living companion and bodyguard to get into a detox closer to home since he was denied hospital help twice in Ireland because of an already two month wait period. Life is life. Life is beautiful. Life is tough sometimes though so let's try not looking down at someone unless we intend on helping them up. Sending love to those in... Texas, Florida, India and Mexico with all the natural disasters going on. We are both so sensitive and the past couple of weeks have been so ouch in our hearts for all humans and animals affected. With Love, M&J

6. Jonathan has been seeking help for anger issues.

Following the incident at Los Angeles International Airport, Mara took to Instagram to defend her husband’s behavior, writing that he had been facing and working through “anger issues” at the time.

“We were in South America specifically working holistically through anger issues that result in these kinds of episodes,” Mara wrote on Instagram on Monday. “When in it… he is not in a frame of mind where he can really even comprehend the repercussions and necessary response to his own actions.”

7. Mara has been supportive of Jonathan despite recent conflicts.

Despite Jonathan’s struggles in recent years, Mara has remained supportive of him. In her most recent Instagram post, Mara discussed the incident that led to Jonathan’s detention at LAX and expressed her hope that her husband will be able to work through his struggles with anger and alcohol addiction.

“J IS extremely sorry for any inconveniences caused to anyone traveling yesterday,” said Mara in the post. “We are home safe and he is feeling deeply sorry for any remote disrespect afforded to me, attendants, onlookers or officers. Thank you for your compassion on this ongoing battle with addiction we are in.”
