Celebrate May 5 with some of the best quotes from these influential Mexican-American celebrities.

Cinco de Mayo, which is literally just the Spanish translation for the 5th of May, is an annual holiday that commemorates the victory of the Mexican army against the French army at the Battle of Puebla.

The victory took place in 1862 during the Franco-Mexican War, and contrary to what some may think of the significance of Cinco de Mayo, it’s not Mexico’s Independence Day. That holiday is September 16.

Although Cinco de Mayo is a rather small deal in Mexico, in the United States, it has become an extremely popular day to celebrate and enjoy Mexican culture and heritage.

People all over the country throw Cinco de Mayo parties with traditional Mexican beverages, food, and music. If you’re not in the mood for a party, it can also be a fun date night as well.

For many people in the United States, Cinco de Mayo is a great excuse to eat tacos and drink margaritas all day long, though personally I would gladly have tacos and margaritas all year long. However, Cinco de Mayo is also an opportunity to acknowledge and honor the contributions of Mexican culture and history.

America’s Latino population is one of the fastest growing demographics in the nation, and U.S. citizens of Mexican descent are the largest Latino group in the United States.

There are also many well-known and beloved celebrities of Mexican descent that have shaped American culture and history through music, entertainment, film, television, sports, activism, and politics. Whether they are immigrants who came from Mexico or people whose family heritage includes Mexican ancestry, these people have made important contributions to the United States.

This Cinco de Mayo, in addition to enjoying delicious Mexican foods and beverages, let’s also celebrate the achievements of our country’s Mexican-American community with these famous and inspirational quotes.
