5 Common Dream Interpretations That Reveal Your True Personality
Buzz, Self

Utterly fascinating!

When it comes to discussions of common dreams, people are divided about what, if anything, the stories that play in our heads at night really mean. For centuries scientists, philosophers, artists and authors have wondered what purpose our dreams serves and whether or not the practice of dream interpretation can truly tell us anything meaningful about ourselves, our personality, and our waking life.

Most people believe that dreams are our brains way of breaking down and disseminating the information it received throughout the day while simultaneously keeping us entertained and allowing our bodies and brains get their much required sleep.

This makes sense, of course, and it's a very sound and reasonable way to approach dream interpretation, but... it's not the only way.

There are others who believe that dreams do much more than just help us break down information and keep us busy for six to eight hours per night.

Some people believe dreams are the unconscious mind's way of sending you messages about yourself and about how you relate to the world around you. You can see evidence of this in cultures throughout the world, in which dreams are revered and turned to as sources of wisdom and guidance.

Of course, if you stop to think about it, there's no reason we can't all be correct in their own way about our theories when it comes to our dreams. After all, an interpretation is always just that and nothing more: "an explanation or a way of explaining" something.

For example, while the following five common dreams might seem simple and/or literal enough on the surface, they are each built on recurring patterns that, if you experience them, reveal a great deal about your mind's inner-workings.

Read on to find out what having any of these five common dreams reveals about your true personality and who you really are.

1. Dreams about falling.

If you are a person who dreams of falling you aren't alone. Having a dream about falling is one of the most commonly reported dreams, and it can happen to you at any age and at any time.

If you dream of falling, this means that you are a person who takes matters of control seriously. You might even be someone who is often labeled a "control freak" by those who know you best. However, your controlling nature is something you try hard to keep under wraps. You don't necessarily hold others to your rigorous standards, so you don't want them to feel judged, but when it comes to your own life, being in control is critical to you.

When you dream about falling, the part of your personality that is guided and comforted by control is crying out for help because it currently feels compromised. Chances are you have a situation in your life that's making you feel out of control, and for a person like you, that's a hard pill to swallow.

Take some deep breaths and remind yourself that not everything in life can be managed by your expert skills, and soon you'll be sleeping better again.

2. Dreams about your teeth falling out.

I used to think that everyone out there had dreams about their teeth falling out, and while it is definitely a common dream, it's certainly not one that everyone has at all!

Dreaming that your teeth are falling out means you're someone who just can't help yourself when it comes to a nice, juicy bit of gossip. You're a natural story teller and you love holding a room in rapt attention while you share the latest details you've managed to scoop before anyone else.

That's all well and good, but if you're totally honest with yourself, there are times you take things a bit too far and share information or rumors you should really keep to yourself.

So when notice yourself being visited by dreams in which your teeth are flying once again, take note. That's your mind's way of letting you know you need to be more mindful of your loose-tongued, if charismatic, story-telling ways!

3. Dreams about being naked in public.

If you dream about being naked in public, you're the type of person who suffers greatly with their own sense of self-esteem and confidence. Dreaming of being naked is your mind's way of giving the part of your personality that is shy, fearful, and insecure a place where it can breathe.

As adults in the waking world, we're often forced to suppress these aspects of our personality out of fear that we'll somehow be judged by others as weak. If you're dreaming of being naked. it's because you haven't been fully acknowledging, supporting and nurturing your most deeply rooted insecurities.

4. Dreams about having super powers.

If you have dreams in which you possess super powers, such as the ability to fly or deflect bullets with your bare hands, you've got a bright and radiantly strong personality.

Dreams of being able to do what no human should be able to are your subconscious' way of allowing your roaring lion of a personality to soar, even when you have to shut your body off for sleep.

People who dream of having super powers are intensely confident, proud, gregarious, and, in worst case scenarios, they can be a tad arrogant. These souls have fun, adventurous personalities, and they're the kind of folks other people definitely want to get to close to!

5. Dreams about natural disasters.

If you have dream of natural disasters like tidal waves, hurricanes, or tornadoes, you are a person whose true personality is often in direct conflict with the public persona they carefully package and present to the outside world.

You might be perceived as mellow, calm, laid back and slow to anger, but the truth is that you struggle with a short fuse and are quite easily annoyed. You're well aware of the fact that these personality traits aren't particularly adored by others, and being adored by others is important to you, which is exactly why you do your best to hide this side of who you are.

The truth is that you can be a person who gets angry and annoyed and STILL be a person who people loving to be around. Nothing bad will come from showing the people who love you who you really are, and it might cut back on those scary dreams!
