10 Tiny Things A Man Does When He's About Ready To Break Up With You

If he's glued to his phone, he's about ready to dump you.

You can never be certain someone is about to dump you, unless, of course, the person tells you. However, with that said, how many of you could predict some of your past breakups? I know I could. I felt that sick feeling in my stomach before it happened.

While I’m no psychic and I can’t predict your future, I can tell you that there are a few signs that a man might be about to dump you. If you notice these signs you can do one of three things: relax and let it unfold; ask him if that’s where’s headed (although, he may say no out of defense or uncertainty); or talk to him to see if there’s a way to salvage the relationship. You can also dump him first if you’re over him too, but if you still care about him don’t do it!!

Here's how to tell a guy wants to break up with you.

1. He has a sudden voracious interest in himself.

Yes, your partner should have an independent life outside of the relationship, but if he suddenly puts all of his free time into things that don’t include you, be aware. Most likely, he’s prepping himself for a life that doesn’t include you.

2. There's a lack of sex.

He doesn’t want to get it on? That is a bad sign. It could mean one of several things. Either he’s having an affair, is stressed, depressed, or pulling away from you. I like to think of sex as the bassline that pulls the relationship together. Your compatibility is the melody and your values are the rhythm, but your sex life is that bass that keeps you thumping.

3. He's started working late.

Working late is not a variable that means he’s about to say goodbye. Working late alongside other variables can be a sign he’s ready to break up with you or is having an affair. Working late on its own could be for many positive things too, like working to buy a ring, a home, earn a promotion, or keep you guys afloat. Just be wary if he’s working late amongst other bad signs.

4. He's meeting up with old friends.

Does he suddenly have to meet up with old friend after old girlfriend after old girlfriend? Are these random run-ins happening often? I don’t think it looks good. It’s fine if he’s reconnecting with platonic friends, but old girlfriends should be on the sidelines unless they’re happily coupled and their relationship was dead and gone ages ago.

5. He's less concerned about time with you.

He doesn’t need or want as much face time as he used to have with you. It’s not because you two have gotten comfortable, but seeing you is not as much of a priority anymore and you’re feeling the burn.

6. He's constantly on his phone.

Is he on his phone so much that you wonder if he’s in an exclusive relationship with it? He’s not only putting a wall up between the two of you, but he may also be hiding another relationship.

7. You’ve become invisible.

Sexy outfit on and looking great, yet your man doesn’t register it? Sure, he may be distracted. Consider that first but then consider that his eyes have wandered if you don’t see him being an attentive partner in general. Like working late, this is a variable that needs to be paired with others and constant. If he misses a “hot moment” here or there, he’s just busy. If he misses them often, he’s drifting off.

8. He doesn't take you anywhere as his plus one.

Suddenly, you’re not asked to join him and his friends, and it’s not that he needs guy time — it’s that you’re the only one of the significant others who isn’t asked to join.

9. He's become increasingly cranky.

If your man is a crotchet, something is bothering him and it may be you. If you think he’s depressed or stressed about other things, you can chalk it up to that, but if everything else in his life is going peachy, he may be done.

10. His mood swings go from mean to guilty.

Is he mean and crabby, and then apologizing constantly for it? Or, is he doing nice things but it feels piteous? You need to have a talk with him. Something is going on and you don’t need to deal with Moody McMooderson.

Is there a surefire way to know if he’s done? Other than him saying so, no, but if you’re seeing some or all of these signs with your guy, the two of you need to talk.
