The Fault in Our Stars is the sixth novel written by YA fiction author John Green. The novel — which deals with themes of life, love, and death — was met with a lot of success and was adapted into a movie in 2014.
The Fault in Our Stars is narrated by an adolescent female named Hazel Grace Lancaster who has cancer and attends a support group where she meets 17-year-old Augustus Waters. The two befriend each other and bond over their favorite books, which they share with each other.
Eventually, the two go on a trip to Amsterdam to meet Peter Van Houten, the author of a book about a cancer patient whose experiences resonate with Hazel. While in Amsterdam, Augustus confesses his love to Hazel.
Sounds like quite the romantic adventure for two teenagers, right? Well, Augustus and Hazel aren’t just normal teenagers—they’re teenagers who struggle with love and mortality as cancer patients. In the novel, they express their love and admiration for each other in touchingly honest ways. Although the two are only teenagers, the way they describe love can strike a chord with anyone.
The book deals with a mix of love and loss, and the romance between the two characters is profound and completely moving. If you haven’t read the book or watched the movie, you should definitely check it out and see why it’s so popular.
