George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin are engaged!

Though the engagement seems to have come fairly quickly for the couple, who have only been dating semi-publicly for a few months, it's even quicker for Clooney himself, who bowed to never, ever get married again following a failed attempt with Talia Balsam in 1989.

A source told PEOPLE, "George and Amal are trying to keep things very low-key but they also aren't really trying to hide this, it doesn't seem. I think it's like they want the people they love to know that this is real, that they plan on being together forever." Alamuddin was spotted with a fancy rock on her all-important finger -- and a big smile on her face -- so it's legit!

Another insider told Page Six, "George and Amal hoped to keep the engagement quiet, but they can't hide the fact that they are very happy."

Witnesses spotted the couple toasting to their engagement with friends recently, and yet another Clooney source wasn't shy about how much the once-eternal bachelor adores Alamuddin. "This is the healthiest relationship I've ever seen George in," the source told Us Weekly. "He seems incredibly happy, and Amal is such a sweet and intelligent girl, who has her own thoughts and ideas and doesn't just bow down to everything he says."

Apparently, Alamuddin's combination of beauty, brains and success (she's a highly accomplished barrister) put her "on the same level" as Clooney. That's no small feat! Congrats to the happy couple. If anyone deserves this silver fox, it's this brunette smartypants!
