Why You Have To Stop Being A 'Yes Man' (Or Woman!)

We know it's bad for us, but for some reason we just can't help it: we're a culture of people-pleasers! Do you ever feel like you're saying yes to everyone... except yourself? If you're constantly saying "yes" to everyone but yourself, you may need a lesson in how to be confident. Sometimes, people-pleasing can go too far.; you can't forget to take care of #1!

Relationship experts Jen Duchene, Carin Goldstein, Marla Martenson and Kelly Rudolph got together in a new video with YourTango Experts Senior VP Melanie Gorman to discuss an issue that's close to many women's hearts: How can we stop being pushovers?! At a certain age you have to just stop what you are doing and say no. It is hard for women because some are raised with this image of being a “good girl,” which implies that you have to agree and say yes to everything. The problem is that it is extremely hard to be happy with yourself when you only try to please other people. In order to be happy with yourself you have to step up and create a voice for yourself. This is a hard first step but once you do it, your life will be so much more enjoyable.

Check out the video above to learn how a low self esteem can contribute to the people-pleasing epidemic; plus, learn how to be confident enough to stand up for your needs and wants. You can be a "nice" girl and take care of yourself, too.
