Having a strong relationship IQ is more than just being able to talk to pretty much anyone comfortably. High-RQ people have an understanding of what's healthy and how to achieve it, a trait that is deep at the core of who they are.

They're not all social butterflies or extroverts, either. Instead, they use a combination of social awareness, communication, and emotional intelligence to navigate the complexities of all kinds of relationships with ease. If you hear someone say these phrases (or you utter them yourself), you're dealing with a special and rare person.

People with exceptionally strong relationship IQs will often say 6 phrases in casual conversation.

1. 'I have someone I'd love for you to meet'

People with an exceptionally strong relationship IQ are often keenly aware of other people's relationship strengths and knowing who in their vast social network would get along with whom. They seem like expert networkers, but it's almost never intentionally about building a formal network. Instead, it's about knowing who will enrich someone else's life or work in some way.

They're the friend who is going to connect people and who knows who would be the right person for the job. They innately sense who would even be a good fit romantically. They're genuinely excited to do this, too, and don't expect others to even say "thank you". It really is just part of who they are.

2. 'You have such great talent for that'

For better or worse, there's something deeply comforting about feeling like you bring beauty into the world and other people are appreciating it. People with strong relationship IQ know this and are the first to point out when another person has great taste or when they have an exceptional talent that brings beauty and comfort to others.

Maybe it's someone's outfit choices or the interior design of their home, or something else entirely, but people with strong relationship IQ are going to acknowledge that they feel charmed by your taste in beauty. They genuinely want to make people feel good and the way they do it feels genuine (because it is!).

3. 'If I've done something to upset you, please let me know'

People with exceptionally strong relationship IQ know that there are people who are simply uncomfortable with confrontation or that they view conflict as something to be avoided at all costs. But those people can also be offended or hurt by someone else's actions and should be able to express their feelings, too.

To help mitigate this anxiety, they're the first to open the floor up for discussion on what they can do to improve their end of the relationship. This is because they're aware that they're not perfect (self-awareness is, after all, a big part of relationship intelligence) and that there may be times where they slip up and step on people's toes unknowingly, too.

While this person may want to open the floor for other people to work through conflict with them, they're also exceptionally good at making their feelings clear without any drama or passive-aggression. This is key to setting boundaries with others.

Boundary-setting is one of the least talked about, yet most important aspects of navigating healthy relationships with others. People with strong relationship IQ have worked hard to develop this skill and are willing to push through the discomfort. They've practiced phrases like this that help them feel confident, and they're going to absolutely call out any mishaps if they feel that they were disrespected by someone else (intentionally or not).

5. 'You two should talk it out between you'

People often vent to a those with exceptionally strong relationship IQ because they know that the person is usually a good listener who can provide valuable insight.

However, don't get it twisted. This is the person who knows that communication is key, and they really don't have a lot of patience for people who constantly complain about others without having the gall to voice their concerns to those same people directly.

As a result, they're likely going to tell you to talk it out what that person directly. They know that, beyond a point of healthy venting, it just becomes a negativity session and will encourage you to confront your own relationship or friendship issues head-on.

6. 'Don't talk about my loved one like that.'

Last but certainly not least, people with exceptionally strong relationship IQ are fully aware of the power that people's words can have. Social bullying is something that flies consistently under the radar because people are often too afraid to stand up to those who talk negatively about others when they're not around.

This is something that a person with strong relationship IQ isn't going to stand for. They know what's at stake. All it takes is for one person to start a rumor, or for a whole group to shun an individual over something petty. They also know the emotional toll this kind of behavior takes on the target of the slander and themselves.

If the target of this gossip or bullying is someone they love, that reaction is only going to be even stronger. And that is part of why these high relationship IQ people truly make the best friends, colleagues and partners.
