Someone Who's Running Out Of People They Actually Like Usually Says 10 Phrases In Casual Conversation
TanyaJoy | Shutterstock Making genuine connections with people isn't easy, especially as an adult. It can be difficult for anyone to find someone they genuinely click with, let alone someone who is reserved or a serious introvert who has high standards for connections.
It isn't always because they're socially awkward. Someone who's running out of people they like is sometimes just fed up with the fakeness or the outdated social dance that's expected of them. The people who say things like the phrases in the list below are just being honest, even if it bothers others.
Someone who is running out of people they actually like says these 10 phrases regularly:
1. 'I'm more of an animal person'

People who dislike pretty much everyone often can't help but love animals and pour their energy into them, instead.
Unlike humans, animals are pure-hearted and rarely have devious motives. Animals are relatively easy to read, while humans are unpredictable, and their needs tend to be quite clear.
While people who aren't that into pets may not get it, those who love animals are actually emotionally intelligent. According to a study published in 2021, people with high emotional intelligence also have high empathy for animals. This is why they often have three cats or two dogs or a collection of rescue chickens in their yard.
It isn't merely because they're cute. Folks who are naturally reserved or introverted still crave connection, but understand that the average person isn't honest enough to fulfill their emotional needs.
This may also happen because they've been hurt too many times to want to risk it again with people, but before you tell them they're doing something wrong, remember that just because something wouldn't work for you doesn't make it bad.
2. 'I don't have the energy to make new friends'

As society becomes highly individualistic, forming genuine real-life connections has become increasingly difficult. Too often, people play games to get what they want from others, so it's hard to know whose worth giving your energy to.
This is why reserved people say, "I don't have the energy to make new friends." It isn't that they don't want to, it's because, in their experience 90% of people aren't all that great.
This, of course, could be a self-fulfilling prophecy as they don't give others the benefit of the doubt. Always assuming the worst, they'd rather burn bridges before they form than get their hearts broken.
3. 'I'd rather stay home'

Interacting with others can be exhausting for people who are already naturally introverted. With so many unspoken social rules people are expected to follow, you can't blame reserved people for saying, "I'd rather stay home." They may like you, but they likely dislike everyone else.
To them, it feels like every time they go out, there's always drama. With coworkers gossiping and family being highly critical, they'd rather stay home than go where they're unwanted.
Call them dramatic, but objectively too much negativity isn't good for anyone's mental health. Negative comments have a way of increasing anxiety and decreasing mood, even online. This is why they choose to stay home and even avoid people on social media.
Again, this may be some degree of self-fulfilling prophecy, but with so few people they like, someone who is running out of people they actually like is probably going to be happier staying home.
4. 'People are tiring'

Reserved people can't help but find interactions exhausting. Even if they're talking to someone they genuinely like, it's a ton of work. Always in the middle of unprovoked drama, they can't help but voice their frustration and say, "People are tiring." They aren't trying to be shady, but enough is enough.
Their patience is on thin ice, and people have a way of making it even worse. Especially when their frustration goes unnoticed, it can feel like they're not being seen. This is why they make it known they're tired. Not because they're trying to be rude, but because they're two seconds away from crashing out.
5. 'I don't feel like talking to anybody'

Most people might not want to admit it, but they're pretty much the same as everyone else. That means that annoying influencer you can't stand? You probably share more similarities than differences. For better or worse, most of us act pretty similarly in everyday situations. As a result, it's no surprise that people who hate nearly everyone say, "I don't feel like talking to anybody."
If 90% of people act the same, they don't want anything to do with it. They've seen enough to know that most people suck. Too self-absorbed, they'd rather not give their all to someone who isn't even looking their way. So, as dramatic as it sounds, reserved people choose to stay silent instead.
6. 'I like to keep to myself'

Reserved people aren't too keen on socializing. Rather than meeting random strangers at bars, introverted people stay home if given the chance. With their cat on their lap and Cheez-its in hand, there's nothing greater than being by themselves. And sure, they might have their little phone calls here and there, but for the most part, you'll almost always hear reserved people say, "I like to keep to myself."
No, they aren't trying to be mysterious. Reserved people actually mean it. They don't want to deal with others if given the opportunity. Not only does it lead to a headache 90% of the time, but combined with their quick temper, it almost always ends in disaster. Especially if they're already on edge, it's better to stay out of their way.
7. 'I don't really talk to anybody outside of work'

True introverts aren't about to go meet up with family or 'acquaintances'. It doesn't matter how important socialization is for mental health. Since 90% of people are annoying to them, they often find themselves saying, "I don't really talk to anybody outside of work."
They aren't trying to make others feel bad for them. In typical introverted fashion, they're just telling people how it is. They aren't the type to give others their time that easily. Especially if they aren't tight-knit, don't expect them to accept your hangout invitation on a whim. They're slow-burners who need consistency to let other people in.
8. 'I don't even know who I'd invite'

Reserved people don't have a long list of friends they can depend on. It sucks, but the older they get, the more they begin to realize that 90% of people can't be trusted. That's why they find themselves saying, "I don't even know who I'd invite." At parties, they don't bring a plus-one, and at family functions they're bugged about why they're still single.
It's annoying, but they can't always help the course of their relationships. Their cautious nature makes them easily spot red flags. Unable to see past them, it's no wonder they have so few friends. They can't tolerate toxic patterns. So, as hard as it may be, they'd rather walk away than risk losing their peace of mind.
9. 'I'm not that close with anyone'

Reserved folks who hate most people still have a few friends. Despite popular belief, they do socialize from time to time. But the older they get, the busier they become. This is why it's no surprise that reserved folks say, "I'm not that close with anyone." They might've been once upon a time, but that chapter has long since sailed.
Now, they're pretty much introverted. Only talking to their family and coworkers, they don't have anyone they can truly rely on. In the moment, it might not feel like a big deal; however, it's bound to get to them. As physician Kristen Fuller, M.D. writes, "Good friends can be and will be your backbone." Especially during moments of tragedy, having one good friend is the difference between pulling yourself together and crumbling. This is why most people should open their hearts and try to let others in.
10. 'It's hard for me to click with people'

People who hate others aren't just saying that on a whim. After being around folks for years, they've observed just how self-serving people can be. While some toss others aside once they're done with them, others manipulate. Playing games with people's hearts with little care in the world, it's no wonder reserved people say, "It's hard for me to click with people."
No, it isn't because they're Y/N level special. With their high emotional intelligence, reserved people can't stand seeing others taken advantage of. This is why they have few friends. They notice redflags easily, and very rarely do they let these toxic behaviors slide.
