Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes are long-time friends and have produced music together.

They do seem to have a lot in common music-wise, but the pair have also known each other for a long time and have maintained a friendship. In 2014, they both toured with Austin Mahone, and collaborated on the 2015 single “I Know What You Did Last Summer.”

During appearances to promote their first single together, they openly denied having ever dated. When they appeared on The Late Late Show with James Corden in 2015, he asked if they had ever made out, to which they denied.

“We haven’t, actually. Every time I try and make a move, she swerves me off,” Mendes joked. While Cabello shot back, “He friend-zones me, he calls me ‘Kid.’”

Cabello also revealed that although they toured together, they didn’t hang out much: “When we were on tour together, I never saw him. He would go to his tour bus and practice guitar, then go onstage, and then go back and practice guitar.”

Mendes said they were just friends... until the release of "Señorita" in 2018.

Mendes made it clear in a 2016 interview the two were just friends, saying, “We’re just really close friends. She is one of those people who is just very easy to connect with and still, to this day, is one of my greatest friends.”

But as we all know, the greatest romances can stem from a strong friendship. And that was the case here, especially since their steamy music video for “Señorita” debuted in 2018. That same week, news outlets revealed that Cabello had split with her boyfriend, Matthew Hussey, after a little over a year together.

Coincidence? Seems fishy.

The two have been dating since at least July 2019.

Over the 4th of July weekend in 2019, the couple was spotted getting extremely close. On July 5th, Mendes performed in Los Angeles, and Cabello attended the concert. Cabello posted on her Instagram story:

Afterward, the two grabbed dinner. They were also seen cozying up very late at night. Like, almost 5 AM late at night.

At brunch on July 7th, they were seen hugging and holding hands. At the time, they were trying very hard to deny their relationship, with Mendes shaking his head “no” when asked at a Q&A if the two were dating.

Rumors have circulated that Cabello and Mendes broke up.

Since the couple have not been seen in public together for a little while, people started to suspect they had separated. Before this, they were seen taking daily strolls with empty coffee cups.

With Mendes' album, Wonder, dropping in December 2020, could a breakup throw a wrench into those plans. Well, it's not likely, because the two are still very much in love.

Cabello took to Instagram to squash the rumors.

Cabello, in effort to shut down the rumors of their breakup, confirmed on her Instagram page that she's still with Mendes. She made an Instagram post praising her boyfriend, and refering to him as "my love."

"The world could use some magic, beauty, and Wonder always, but especially right now. @shawnmendes what a gorgeous gift to the world. He's crafted this album with every last bit of his soul, his spirit, and his essence with the purest of intentions. My love, I'm so proud of the person you are and I'm so excited for people to see and hear your heart," she wrote in the caption.
