Cultivatin Our Intuition As Women

An experiment of curiosity and intrigue.

Once upon a time there was a woman in need of guidance. Her life felt overwhelming, and it was easy to become discouraged and hard to stay encouraged. Funny she thought how the word courage is embedded in both words. It occurred to her one morning that she had read about the power to become quiet and hear your own inner voice for guidance. It sounded so poetic though she had never actually tried it. She decided to be courageous to herself and for herself and make a commitment to try such a practice and see what would happen. An experiment of curiosity and intrigue.

It was sunrise when she awoke and could not sleep. It was also the morning she had made the promise to get quiet and spend some time alone to see if she could get clarity for herself. Fine she thought, I will get up and take a walk in the local park and be with me for a bit, walking this early has a certain peace to it she pondered. Many thoughts filled her mind and ideas began to roll about swirling like a painting of colors and hues. Then she remembered what she had recently read. The author described that often in our culture our gut feelings are not cultivated in our youth as young women. We may have received discounting messages when we expressed an intuitive sense and this began the poison of doubt.  Our sixth sense was intended to be nurtured to guide us through the complicated moments of living and loving. While there are some cultures and some families that teach this practice to their children, many young women are not guided nor supported in intuitive knowing.

Like an art form. it takes practice to create this ancient wisdom and get out of our head and feel in our bellies the guidance we need. Hmm she thought, I will start today, taking 5 minutes a day as a beginning daily ritual to grow this power within me to know what I need to know. What a gift she thought if I could have such a skill to guide and inspire my life especially when I allow events and circumstances to impact me personally.

And on that sunny drenched morning she found a boulder in the woods, sat gracefully, closed her eyes, let the sun illuminate on her face and thought of one particular situation for which she desired clarity.  She took a deep breath, and another and the thought of her question began to swim about in her mind and she waited, and took another breath. She began to really listen to the breath within her as though it was water flowing down a beautiful crystal clear river. Breathing and allowing her inhales to be rhythmic and smooth she slowly realized the stillness within her felt like freedom with a splash of safety. She smiled a big brilliant smile as the sun caressed her cheek and she deepened into the realization that stillness is power. The ritual had taken root and she made a promise to strengthen this gift which is a powerful birthright.  Upon arriving home that afternoon she wrote a poem in an attempt to capture the magic and discovery of her day.

Alone in thought am I

As I reach into the day

Filled with knowing

Mindful to breath deep

Take me to the waters edge to drink in the droplets of peace

The sound that fills my every sense

Like music of an opus

The crashing melody embraces the essence of all that is

Alone in awareness the honor to be present

I see too clear which fogs my vision

Thoughts of an ancient time

Remind me of the essence in the wind
