Why You'll NEVER Find A Fairytale-Like Love (And That's OK)

We spend our entire childhood being told that love is like a fairytale, and when we find it, we will live happily ever after.

Then we start dating.

Obviously, we begin searching for that one and only true love — the one that gives us butterflies and makes us want to smile 24/7. That’s when life hits us in the face with a massive dose of reality.

You can't find it. No matter how deep you dig, you will never find Prince Charming or Miss Perfect. Now don’t get me wrong, love DOES exist. But if you’re searching for a fairytale, you’ll never find it.

Our Misconception Of Love

When dating, we tend to have specific desires in mind. We want a man who's tall, dark and mysterious or we want a woman to have a Playboy physique with the ability to cook meals just like our grandmas. We expect no fights, no arguments and no bickering.

Dating in the 21st century has become much easier. With online dating sites and merchant processors like making it easier than ever to pay for matchmaking services, we can literally get a different date for every night of the week. It makes us quit on relationships the second they get difficult.

Don’t Quit On Love

Love is not a quitter’s game. If you’re searching for the fairytale ending, you’ll constantly find yourself walking out of good relationships the minute things get tough. Don’t quit on love. Work on your strengthening your relationship instead. Although fairytales said it's easy, real-life love is hard work. You need to work at it at all times. The moment you give up on putting effort into your relationship is the exact moment that you will stop feeling love.

Find Someone Who Makes You Happy MOST Of The Time

It’s impossible to find someone who can make you happy all of the time. There are days when you can't stand the person you're with. However, if you can find someone who makes you happy most of the time, you should settle down with that person. Obviously, more good days than bad days are a must, but bad days are a part of love.

If you can’t stand getting into arguments, you’re making healthy relationships impossible for yourself. When it comes down to it, love is much more like math than like a fairytale. You date random people, compare who makes you happier the most amount of days in a week and pick the one with the best stats.

Don’t Set Yourself Up For Failure

Searching for the happily ever after ending is basically like setting yourself up for failure. Fairytales are children stories, not real life. It’s impossible for a partner to make you happy 100% of the time, so avoid setting yourself up for failure by realizing what love looks like in reality.

If you can find someone who you love and who you can tolerate on their bad days, marry that person.
