Sounds like Angelina Jolie's family had a rough go of it recently — and it sounds like it might be pretty serious.

In a new essay she wrote for Time, Jolie revealed that two of her daughters have had surgery recently, with one of them requiring multiple operations.

But what surgery did Jolie's daughters have? She's remained private about the situation but here's what we know for sure.

1. Jolie shared the news in an essay about International Women's Day.

Speaking about the caring nature of little girls, Jolie opened up about her family's medical issues, disclosing that she did have her daughters' permission to share some of the details.

"I have spent the last two months in and out of surgeries with my eldest daughter, and days ago watched her younger sister go under the knife for a hip surgery," she wrote. "They know that I am writing this, because I respect their privacy and we discussed it together and they encouraged me to write. They understand that going through medical challenges and fighting to survive and heal is something to be proud of."

2. She said her daughters have been caring for each other.

In her essay, Jolie went on to say that she has witnessed her daughters caring for each other while they were recovering.

"I have watched my daughters care for one another. My youngest daughter studied the nurses with her sister, and then assisted the next time. I saw how all my girls so easily stopped everything and put each other first, and felt the joy of being of service to those they love," she wrote.

3. So what surgeries did Jolie's daughters have?

Though she did disclose that one of her daughters had hip surgery (Shiloh Jolie Pitt was recently seen using crutches), all we know about the oldest (15-year-old Zahara) is that she's had to go under the knife multiple times this year so far. That definitely sounds like it must have been scary for her and her mom.

4. Jolie and ex Brad Pitt share six children together.

Including the daughters who may have had surgery recently, Jolie and Pitt are parents to six kids in total: Maddox, 18, Pax, 16, Zahara, 15, Shiloh, 13, and 11-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne. Reportedly, Jolie currently has primary custody of all of their children, although it seems that their battle has been ongoing ever since their 2016 divorce.

5. Jolie herself has been open about her own health struggles.

In another essay she shared in 2013, Jolie opened up about having a double mastectomy after finding out that she had a high risk of breast cancer and ovarian cancer.

"I wanted to write this to tell other women that the decision to have a mastectomy was not easy. But it is one I am very happy that I made," she said at the time. "My chances of developing breast cancer have dropped from 87 percent to under 5 percent. I can tell my children that they don’t need to fear they will lose me to breast cancer."

6. Recently, she was seen out with her daughters.

Though Jolie's children occasionally do hit the red carpet with their mom, it's not an everyday occurence that they're seen out and about. But earlier this month, she went to Cirque du Soleil to see their touring show, Volta, with Zahara and Vivienne, and one of the performers from the show shared a group photo they all took on Instagram, writing that Jolie is a "beautiful soul."
