'Vanderpumps Rules' Star Scheana Shay Defends Herself After Commenters Tell Her She's Too Old For Skimpy Bodysuit
Shocking: she doesn’t care.
Instagram On Monday, Scheana Shay shared a cute image of herself with her little sister, Cortney van Olphen, at a costume party. Shay was dressed as a sexy dominatrix and her sister was dressed as, well, sexy Barbie. The caption celebrated Olphen’s 22nd birthday, calling their personalities “day and night,” yet highlighting their similar interest in style. All around adorable vibes. However, some Instagram users with nothing better to do keenly pointed out that 34-year-old Shay wasn’t exactly “dressing her age.” What I’d like to know is, what age should a dominatrix be? And who is Scheana Shay?
1. Scheana Marie Shay (née Jancan) is an actress and singer.
Shay was such a genius kid she skipped a grade in elementary school (or maybe she missed the cut-off). She graduated from Bishop Amat High School in 2002 in La Puente, California, and then from Azusa Pacific University in 2006 with a Bachelor of Arts in Broadcast Journalism.
2. She had a few small acting roles on some childhood-favorite TV shows.
It began with guest appearances on Greek, Jonas, Victorious, and 90210. In 2012, she played Angel Tomlin on three episodes of the TV series Femme Fatales. Finally, in 2013, she became a regular cast member of the reality TV series, Vanderpump Rules.
3. Vanderpump Rules is a spin-off of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.
The Bravo series follows the lives of Lisa Vanderpump and the staff at her restaurant SUR in West Hollywood, California. They spend their time serving, building their futures in show business and creating drama for the advancement of the plot. The success of the spin-off resulted in another spin-off called Vanderpump Rules: Jax And Brittany Take Kentucky.
4. Shay has released a few dance-pop singles.
The beats lean electro-pop. One Bravo article from 2013 describes it as “a bit reminiscent of Melissa Gorga’s pop adventures, and even — dare we say it — resembles a little bit of modern-day Britney Spears or Ke$ha with its production.” In a Q&A with BravoTV.com, Scheana shared: “I hadn't done trained dancing in years and picking up choreography is not as easy at 27 as it was at 17.” She added that “singing live for the first time in front of a huge group of people just stressed me, because I didn't know if I would sound like complete s— or not” but “once I got on stage it all came back to me. All the performance training I had as a child and through college just came right back in and I took over the stage—splits, booty poppin', and all.”
5. She married Michael Shay in 2014 at Hummingbird Nest Ranch in Santa Susana, California.
And then the two promptly ended it in 2016. By 2017, their divorce was finalized. A bit about Micheal, though: he’s a music producer! He’s played at clubs all over Los Angeles and Southern California. Obviously, he was also on Vanderpump Rules, but only because of his relationship with Scheana. Before “fame,” he was a football player in high school, which is where he met Scheana, who was a cheerleader.
6. She hosts a weekly podcast titled Scheananigans with Scheana Shay.
It covers everything from conversations with celebrity and industry guests to stories from her time on the show to her life in Vegas. Vegas is where Lisa Vanderpump recently launched Vanderpump Cocktail Garden at Caesars Palace. In other Vegas-related news, Shay has previously starred in a stage show at Anthony Cools Theater at the Paris Hotel and Casino called Sex Tips For Straight Women From a Gay Man.
By the way, most dominatrixes are in their 20s and 30s, so her attire was spot on for her age.
