Who Is Jonnie West? New Details About Michelle Wie's Fiancé

At just 29 years old, Michelle Wie has had quite the career. Wie is a professional golfer who plays on the LPGA Tour, became the youngest player to qualify for a USGA amateur championship at just 10 years old, and was the youngest person to qualify for an LPGA Tour event.

Shortly before turning 16, she became professional, and went on to win her first major at the 2014 U.S. Women’s Open. Impressive doesn’t even begin to describe her accomplishments and talent.

But aside from “champion,” she can now add another title: wife!

Yesterday, Wie announced her engagement to Jonnie West, making a sweet post on Instagram. “My person for life!!!!!!!!!” she wrote, followed by red heart emojis, accompanying a picture of the two.

But who is Jonnie West? Just like his fiancé, he’s also an athlete.

He currently works as the operations manager for the Golden State Warriors, but he played college basketball for West Virginia for four years. He’s also the son of Jerry West, who played for the LA Lakers in the NBA, and coached them after he retired. He’s a legend in the basketball world. West has also caddied for Stephen Curry and frequently golfs with Curry, as well as other teammates, like Klay Thompson and Andre Iguodala.

Though it’s unclear how long the couple has been together, her first photo of the two of them was posted in January 2019. But we do know that fellow golfer, Justin Thomas, introduced the two of them. According to an Instagram story from Thomas, “Can definitely say this set up went as well as possible! Happy for you two love birds,” to which Wie replied, “You should start a matchmaking business.”

How exciting for the couple, especially considering what the last few years have been like for Wie. Two years ago, she was in a car accident and hurt her wrist, eventually undergoing surgery to fix an Avulsion fracture, bone spurring and nerve entrapment.

She didn’t play in the 2018 season and withdrew from the HSBC Women’s World Championship in February due to pain in her wrist. “I made the decision on 15 to withdraw because at that point, I was unable to lift the club,” she said.

She also revealed, “After 3 cortisone injections and some rest following the British Open, we were hoping it was going to be enough to grind through the rest of the season, but it wasn’t enough to get me through. So I made the decision after Hana Bank to withdraw from the rest of the season, come back to the states, and get surgery to fix these issues. It’s been disheartening dealing with pain in my hand all year but hopefully I am finally on the path to being and STAYING pain free!”

Congratulations are in order for these two. Happy wedding planning!
