5 Details About The Lady Gaga/Madonna Feud — Including How It May Have Ended At The Oscars

Madonna and Lady Gaga reportedly put an end to their years-long feud Sunday. According to Radar Online, Madonna, 60, invited Gaga, 32, to her exclusive VIP after party following the Oscars, hinting that they may have decided to put the past behind them.

“Madonna would make peace with the devil if it made her relevant again,” a source told the outlet.

So are they still fighting and did they make up just for show? Here are 5 details about the Lady Gaga/Madonna feud — including if they've finally decided to embrace their differences.

1. It all started in 2011.

The bad blood between Madonna and Gaga began when Gaga released "Born This Way" in 2011. Madonna called the hit a "reductive" rip-off of her song "Express Yourself," which was released in 1989.

"I thought, this is a wonderful way to redo my song. I mean, I recognized the chord changes. I thought it was... interesting," Madonna told ABC News. Gaga defended her song, calling the comparison "moronic," although she did admit that Madonna had been a major influence in her career.

"If you put the songs next to each other, side by side, the only similarities are the chord progression," she told NME following Madonna's diss. "It's the same one that's been in disco music for the last 50 years. Just because I'm the first f---ing artist in 25 years to think of putting it on Top 40 radio, it doesn't mean I'm a plagiarist, it means that I'm f---ing smart. Sorry."

2. Madonna called Gaga untalented.

Madonna brought the feud back into view in a 2015 interview with Rolling Stone.

"The only time I ever criticized Lady Gaga was when I felt like she blatantly ripped off one of my songs," she said. "It's got nothing to do with 'she's taking my crown' or 'she's in some space of mine.' She has her thing."

"I do think she's a very talented singer and songwriter," Madonna continued. "It was just that one issue. And everybody's obviously running with it and turned it into a huge feud, which I think is really boring, quite frankly. And you know what? I don't care anymore."

3. They've been back and forth for years.

Madonna and Gaga have launched insults at each other a number of times since the release of "Born This Way." From Madonna performing a mash-up of "Express Yourself" and "Born This Way" on her tour to Gaga saying she had "basically been hoping that I would become so good that one day I would piss off Madonna," it was clear the two have not exactly been friends.

4. Gaga was invited to Madonna's post-Oscars party.

Madonna invited Gaga to "The Party," the famous after party she co-hosts with manager Guy Oseary each year following the Oscars, and Gaga reportedly made a friendly appearance. She won the Academy Award for Best Original Song, so she had lots to celebrate!

5. A photo of the two sparked rumors the feud is over.

At "The Party," there are very strict rules about social media posts and photography, but TIME released a photo of Madonna embracing Gaga as she rested her head on the "Like a Prayer" singer's chest. The two look as though they are friends! Is it possible they have put their differences aside and become pals? Let's hope so!

It's about time the award-winning singers were on the same page.
