What Does Ariana Grande's Natural Hair Look Like?

Ariana Grande's super-long, super-straight ponytail is her signature look, always perched high on her head and falling practically down to her behind.

For years, fans have wondered if it's her real hair or if it's extensions, although she seems to have made the answer fairly in obviously in these lyrics of her hit single "7 Rings":

"You like me hair? Gee, thanks, Just bought it."

So what does Ariana Grande's natural hair look like?

Luckily, we finally have an answer. The 26-year-old singer posted a video of her very own real natural hair on an Instagram story back in November, finally putting the rumor and questions to rest.

Arianators everywhere went absolutely wild. Her fans are so devoted, they even suggested she wear her hair natural more often.

But there's more to know about Grande's hair, both real and fake, and here are the answers to your most asked questions:

1. Why does Ariana Grande always wear a ponytail extension?

In 2014, Grande gave an interview with Boston radio station Mix 104.1, during which she revealed that her hair had become damaged and began falling out after dyeing it red four years straight while appearing on Nickelodeon's "Sam and Cat."

“I was on a television show for a very long time where I had to dye my hair every other week for the role," she said, "so naturally my hair fell out. It was all broke off so I have a lot of fake hair ... But it’s not like I can just wear my hair however I want. It’s easier for me to tie it back cause my hair’s so short and broken. So I wear the same hairstyle all the time. And I’m comfortable with it. I’ll switch it up eventually. I just have to wait for my hair to grow. It’s like little pieces of hay right now, it’s not cute. I’d love to wear it down but I’d look like the scarecrow.”

2. Grande has been clear that wearing the high, tightly pulled back ponytail hurts.

Soon after Camilla Cabello wore a long, high ponytail during a red carpet appearance late last year, she tweeted her new-found empathy for Grande.

"I just did a high ponytail for the first time and it is literally pulling on my BRAIN ITS SO PAINFUL HOW DO YOU DO IT?" Cabello Twitter shrieked.

Grande replied, "Well you actually have hair so that (probably) makes it a lil more painful... Nah jk I'm in constant pain always and don't care at all."

Grande's even joked about wearing extensions, and she doesn't try to fool people into thinking her long locks are all her natural hair.

3. Maintaining Grande's hair-do requires lots of work

That famous ponytail is made possible with the help of at least a full foot of extensions. It's a great style for someone who doesn't want to mess much with it — as long as it's up.

But when it has to be otherwise cared for and maintained, Grande relies on a favorite hair care supply of many celebrities: coconut oil.

"Coconut oil just goes with everything," she told Allure, sharing that she also uses lavender essential oil to soothe her scalp, with the magazine noting this could potentially help her real hair grow.

4. Grande has no plans to ditch the ponytail

Though she cut her natural hair shorter late last year, she's rocked that high ponytail since at least 2013.

In May 2018, around the same time she debuted a slightly lower, silver ponytail in the cover art for her song "No Tears Left to Cry," she gave Fader the scoop.

“The pony has also gone through an evolution," Grande said, "and I’m proud of that. Old pony? I don’t know if she’s that girl. But new pony? I like her. I mean, it’s like a Victoria’s Secret angel without angel wings. It’s still her without them, but when she’s with them it’s like, ‘Ohh, I get it, she’s an angel.’”

5. Her natural hair, revealed

Since fans couldn't respond to her Instagram story, they took to Twitter to post their thoughts on Grande's real hair.

It's clear in the video below that Grande's natural hair is a little curly, and thankfully, she hasn't tried to fool anyone into believing otherwise.
