The series began airing on January 1st, and features 30-minute stand-up sets from 47 comics, from 13 different regions of the globe, in eight different languages! That’s pretty unique for Netflix, don’t you think. The comics come from all parts of the world (hence the title), including Germany, the Middle East, Australia, and India, giving us all a taste of what life is like in each corner of the globe.

But one comedian who has stood out is DeAnne Smith, who is Canadian-American. According to her own bio, her style is described as “always relevant, but never reverent,” and the UK Telegraph says that her “effortless charm lets her get away with murder.”

1. She’s been performing stand-up for 13 years.

Smith started her stand-up career in 2005 when she was 25 years old, though she didn’t get noticed until 2008 when she premiered and toured her full-length stand-up show. Since then, she’s produced four shows and had multiple solo shows.

2. She tours internationally.

She’s toured in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the UK.

She’s been rated one of Montreal’s Top 10 Comedians, ranking #4 from 2007-2009, and #3 from 2010-2012.

4. She’s appeared on television and radio.

In the United States, she’s been on Last Comic Standing and The Late Late Show, but has also been on Good News Week in Australia, and Funny As Hell on HBO. Her radio appearances include ABC, and Triple J in Australia, as well as the Canadian CBC Radio One, Definitely Not the Opera, and The Debaters.

Her podcast, DeAnne Smith’s Questionable at Best, aired for three years, from 2013-2016.

6. She been nominated for quite a few awards.

Smith won the 2008 Sydney Comedy Festival award for Best Newcomer, but has been nominated for Best Female Stand-up at the Canadian Comedy Awards, the Barry Award for Most Outstanding Comedy Show, and Amused Moose Top Ten at the 2012 Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

7. She describes herself as agender.

While hosting Comedy Up Late at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival in 2017, she revealed that she is agender. This means that she doesn’t identify as male or female; she is without gender.
