Pat Toomey has served as a U.S. Senator from Pennsylvania since 2011. Previously, he was a U.S. Representative for the state’s 15 congressional district, but didn’t seek re-election in 2005, honoring a pledge that he would only serve three terms. Toomey is a businessman and former Wall Street Banker, working as a currency trader before becoming involved in politics. He was re-elected for the Senate in 2016 and is currently the only Republican in an statewide office in the state.

Since being elected to the Senate, he’s served on multiple committees, including the Congressional Joint Economic Committee, the Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs, the Committee on the Budget, and the Committee on Finance. He also serves on many subcommittees.

Though he’s challenged the president on many issues, particularly trade policy, he still supports many of the same viewpoints as Trump and his colleagues in the Senate. He supports charter schools and was in favor of Betsy DeVos being appointed as the Secretary of Education. He received over $60,000 from the DeVos family during his career. He’s also voted regularly against legislation to help stop global warming, including efforts for deforestation, oil drilling, and voted to limit the Environmental Protection Agency’s ability to regulate greenhouse gas emissions.

In addition, he’s against the ACA, and on multiple occasions has voted against bills for gun control. He voted against a bill that would prohibit individuals on the no-fly list from purchasing guns, though he has advocated for expanding background checks. He’s received over $93,000 from gun rights groups, including the NRA.

But as far as his personal life goes, what do we know about him and his family? Specifically, who is Pat Toomey's wife? Here are 6 details to know about Kris Toomey, their relationship, and what life is like for them.

The two are parents of three children: Bridget, Patrick, and Duncan. Their third child, Duncan, was born while Pat was running his Senate campaign in 2010.

4. She was a tax consultant.

Kris attended the University of Connecticut, graduating with a bachelor’s of science in statistics and mathematics. After graduation, she was a manager of client services at PricewaterhouseCoopers, which offers tax consulting, but she has also been a consultant to her husband.

5. But she’s also an advocate.

She’s served on the Board of The Valley Youth House, an organization in Pennsylvania that, according to the website, “is the catalyst for youth to achieve their desired future through genuine relationships that support families, ensure safe places, and build community connections.” In 2015, the Toomeys donated between $2,500 and $4,999.

6. She’s competed in triathlons.

Though she was a competitive athlete for years, Kris gave up on races and training to support her husband’s career. But after her mother was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a type of blood cancer, she was inspired to compete again. She trained for an Ironman triathlon, which included a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike, and a 26.2-mile run. She raised more than $21,000 for the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation.

“I used to do (triathlons) before we were married, and then just with the congressional schedule and the kids and everything, I just got out of it. Two years ago [in 2013], I tore my calf muscle and I couldn’t run or walk, so I got back in the pool and I started swimming again. I started to think, ‘Gosh, I could do this again.’ I did four sprints my first year and I did very well... I just thought, all the timing was right for me to just go for this now,” she told The Morning Call.

The couple also compete in other races to raise awareness of the disease.
